Etymology

  • Nyarlathotep is a character in the works of H. P. Lovecraft and other writers. The character is commonly known in association with its role as a malign deity in the Lovecraft Mythos fictional universe, where it is known as the Crawling Chaos.
  • Its summon call, "Wood of N'gai" is a reference to the place where Nyarlathotep's form as "Dweller in Darkness" and "Howler in the Dark" is active.
  • "Crawling Chaos", "Faceless God", and "Haunter of the Dark" are some of Nyarlathotep's known titles.
  • "Now Roll for Sanity" is a reference to the tabletop RPG Call of Cthulhu, in which sanity is a statistic and mechanic that needs to be checked when demonic and bizarre things happen. Nyarlathotep appears in the game.
