Star Wars: Age of Rebellion is the second in a trilogy of RPGs from Fantasy Flight Games set in the Star Wars Universe, following Star Wars: Edge of the Empire and preceding Star Wars: Force and Destiny. Each of the three cross-compatible games focuses on a specific aspect of life in the Star Wars Universe. Age of Rebellion focuses on playing characters active in the Rebel Alliance.
Presenting a licensed Star Wars roleplaying game has been undertaken in the past by West End Games, and Wizards of the Coast. The current license holder is Fantasy Flight Games.
Age of Rebellion (AoR) and its sister games utilize the same mechanics, with each game written from a perspective and with support material focused on a particular aspect of the game universe. Each game is fully cross-compatible, while also offering a distinct play style suitable to its character types. AoR imagines that the characters will be agents, operatives, soldiers, and agitators, trying to survive long or short-term missions in a losing battle against the might of the Galactic Empire, tied to each other and their cause with bonds of Duty.
The game builds on the narrative dice pool mechanic developed for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying, 3rd Edition, which foregoes numerically marked dice for the use of symbols which produce results where degrees of success can be obtained, and tempered by degrees of threat and advantage.
