Millennial Dance[edit]
(Captain) and company encounter Societte, the fan-wielding heir to a royal family that disappeared a thousand years ago. Societte is disappointed that the crew doesn't seem to have any new information, but ultimately agrees to join them when they offer to help her search.
The crew undertakes a mission to exterminate fire monsters within an ancient ruin.
Once inside, they encounter a massive monster.
Monster: Groar!
Vyrn: That's one tough-looking critter!
Vyrn: This isn't gonna be easy, but it's now or never! Here we go, (Captain)!
Lyria: H-hold on! There's a woman back there!
???: ...
Vyrn: What's she doing by herself? We've gotta help her before it's too—
???: Your fire will not suffice.
The massive fans in the elegant Erune's hands begin to take on a scarlet sheen.
She begins to dance. With a wave of her fans, the monster falls.
Vyrn: Did she topple that monster just by dancing?
???: ...!
Vyrn: That was amazing! Did you use some kind of magic?
???: ...?
Lyria: Um...
???: ...
???: ...
???: ...
???: ...
Vyrn: She's, uh, staring at us. Without saying anything.
Lyria: I don't know why, but I'm getting really nervous...
???: Ah, er...
Vyrn: Something wrong? Sounds like you're mumbling to yourself.
Lyria: Vyrn, I think she has something to say to us.
???: !
The Erune nods her head, wagging her tail happily all the while.
She introduces herself as Societte, and explains that her shyness makes it difficult for her to speak to others.
Vyrn: So that's why you didn't say anything!
Societte: Sorry. I get embarrassed around people I don't know.
Vyrn: Don't worry about it! We didn't even really notice.
Lyria: Did you accept the mission to defeat the monster too, Societte?
Societte: No. Not quite.
Societte: I heard stories of a monster with the power of flame and decided to search for it myself.
Societte: It wasn't what I was expecting. The monster attacked me, so I just had to take it down.
Vyrn: You made that sound kinda easy, but that monster's not exactly a pushover, is it?
Vyrn: Hm? You're looking for someone, Paper Fan Princess?
Societte: Er...
Societte: These aren't paper fans.
Vyrn: Oh! My bad.
Lyria: They're very well made! And I love the designs on them too!
Societte: Heheh...
Societte: So ah, have you heard of the nine... I mean, the living flame?
Vyrn: Talk about a sudden change of subject! Lyria, have you heard of this living flame thing?
Lyria: Hmm... No, I haven't. Sorry.
Societte: Pay it no mind.
Vyrn: At any rate, why are you looking for something like that?
Societte: Sorry, but I'm afraid I can't talk about it at length. I don't want to involve innocent bystanders.
Lyria: I don't want to interfere, but if you gave us a little hint, maybe we could help you!
Vyrn: We might hear something while we travel through the skies!
Vyrn: If it's something we can help out with, we'd be glad to lend a hand! Right, (Captain)?
Societte: If I tell you more, you may end up being targeted by evildoers. Is that acceptable to you?
Choose: I don't mind.
Societte: Wait. That's right. You're quite powerful.
Vyrn: Haha, yeah! And we're gonna get even stronger!
Vyrn: We've already dealt with all sorts of bad guys, including the empire! So don't worry about it!
Lyria: Haha, that's right.
Lyria: However, (Captain) has looked after us and kept us safe.
Societte: Very well, then. You... don't look like bad people.
Choose: Um... No thank you.
Societte: Very well. Understood.
Vyrn: Hold on! You're just kidding around, right, (Captain)?
Societte: Umm... huh? That was... a joke?
Vyrn: Well, to be fair, I don't think there's anything we could run into that would surprise us at this point.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Vyrn: Fan Girl here sure is a delicate flower!
Societte: Yer a prankster, I see...
Societte: Okay then—I'll tell you. Besides, you don't look like bad people.
Continue 1Societte calmly begins explaining the situation to the party.
A thousand years ago, there existed a country with nine royal families. They revered and worshiped a living flame, whose power kept them safe.
One day, however, the power of the flame ran out of control. Eventually, the flame itself vanished.
Societte explains that eight of the nine sacred treasures containing the sacred flame had been lost, and that she was now looking for them.
Vyrn: So you've been searching for these eight sacred flame treasures or whatever by yourself?
Societte: Um... Actually, those aren't the only things I'm looking for.
Societte: I'm also looking to recover seven dances dedicated to them, along with their successors.
Societte: I'm also searching for a friend of mine, and... Well, it's complicated.
Vyrn: Seriously? Sounds like you've got your hands full!
Lyria: Why are you looking for so many things all by yourself?
Societte: Well, er... Look at this.
Societte: This... is the first dance.
Societte's fans begin to glimmer.
Societte: This is the power of my line. I am the heir to their divine legacy.
Lyria: That's incredible! And so pretty!
Societte: I protected our homeland as a descendant of the royal line.
Societte: As a successor, I must make everything lost known once more.
Societte: That's why I'm here. I'm sure of it.
Vyrn: Wow, that sounds cool! Epic too!
Societte: You... you think so?
Lyria: Yes! You're carrying out a huge mission all by yourself!
Societte: Actually, I... originally wanted to travel with friends.
Societte: Circumstances, unfortunately, made sure that didn't happen.
Lyria: I-I see. It sounds like you've been through a lot.
Vyrn: Have you found any of the twenty things you're searching for on your own yet?
Societte: No. I've found nothing.
Societte: I-In fact... I haven't so much as found a single clue.
Societte: And when I try to gather information, well... It's difficult for me to explain the situation to others.
Vyrn: Yeah.
Societte: I came here thinking it might lead somewhere, but...
Lyria: But that was off the mark too.
Societte: Yeah.
Societte: Did listening to my conversation bring anything to mind?
Lyria: I'm sorry, Societte, but I really can't think of anything.
Vyrn: Me neither. Sorry.
Societte: No, that's okay.
Societte: I'm just glad you listened to me. For some reason, it... feels easy to talk to you.
Societte: Um, actually... about that...
Societte: Er... I mean...
Choose: Let's look for it together.
Vyrn: Yeah! If we travel together, it'll be easier to search for info on these sacred treasures of yours!
Societte: A-are ya sure that's okay?
Lyria: Of course!
Choose: Speak clearly.
Societte: Ngh...
Lyria: ...
Vyrn: ...
Societte: Ngh... H-hey!
Lyria: Y-yes?
Societte: I haven't been able to feel at ease speaking to others for so long. I hope we will become friends.
Societte: I never imagined I'd have an opportunity like this again, so... if it's okay with you, I'd... I'd like to...
Vyrn: You want us to cooperate with you?
Societte: Gasp! Y-yes...
Societte: Until I find my friend is fine...
Vyrn: Don't sweat the small stuff! Let's go look for 'em together!
Societte: T-together?
Lyria: Right! It'll be easier to gather information and find these treasures you're looking for if we look together!
Lyria: You mentioned before that bad guys might come after us, right?
Lyria: Does that mean you're being targeted by them too?
Societte: Yes...
Lyria: That's all the more reason we should travel together, then! You'll be able to rest easy as long as we're around!
Continue 2Societte: I just wanted some assistance gathering information. I never imagined you'd invite me to travel with you...
Vyrn: Searching for all that stuff by yourself must be rough! It'll be way easier working together!
Vyrn: We're trying to get somewhere too! We keep getting distracted, but hey...
Lyria: We'll definitely help you if you figure something out, Societte!
Societte: Goodness... I've never experienced such kindness from strangers before. Only my father, mother, and sister treated me like this...
Societte: Um, so, er...
Societte: I'm looking forward to... working with you...
Her face beet red, Societte bows in gratitude, wagging her tail and ears all the while.
And with that, the party welcomes Societte, the cripplingly shy royal heir, to the crew.
Floral Arrangement[edit]
(Captain)'s party visits a tavern to speak to a man with information on the royal family. Unfortunately, they find him being carried off to some kind of thug hideout, and quickly give chase.
(Captain) and company learn of an Erune man that has information on the royal family.
Sierokarte sets up an appointment for them to meet at the tavern, but he has yet to show up.
Vyrn: Hmm... Our contact is supposed to come and talk to us, right?
Vyrn: What's going on? No one's talking to us.
Societte: ...
Vyrn: Hm? What's wrong Societte?
(Captain) looks at Societte.
Societte is blatantly staring at an Erune man with her tail wagging quietly.
Erune Man: ... Um.
Societte: !
Erune Man: Oh, haha, hello...
The Erune man meets eyes with Societte. After an an awkward moment, he smiles and walks away.
Societte: A-Aww...
Societte's ears and tail slump down sadly as she watches the man leave.
Vyrn: Hey now... What are you doing?
Societte: H-He was staring into my eyes.
Societte: I-I thought he would come talk to me...
Lyria: Um, maybe he was the person that we were supposed to meet...
Societte: Oh, so that's why he looked like he was about to say something...
Vyrn: Hey... Why didn't you say something?
Vyrn: Let's go find him!
Erune Man: ...
Societte: T-There he is! That's him!
Vyrn: Alright, let's talk to him! Hey, excuse me!
Right as Vyrn calls out to him, scoundrels suddenly appear from the back alley.
The scoundrels knock the man unconscious and try to take him away.
Vyrn: H-Hey! What do you think you're doing?!
Thug: Damn, someone saw us...! We'll buy some time, so you guys take him to the hideout.
Societte: ...!
Let's help him, (Captain)!
Let's help him, (Captain)!
Floral Arrangement: Scene 2[edit]
(Captain) and the crew struggle in vain as the Erune man is kidnapped by thugs. When Societte frantically asks them to help, the party realizes the gravity of the situation and gives chase.
Thug 1: Whoa, these guys are strong... Hm?
Thug 1: That dance... Those fans... It can't be...
Societte: ...!
Thug 2: Hey, it's time to go.
Vyrn: Hold it, you informant-snatching jerks!
Societte: Let's go after 'em, (Captain)!
Societte: If we don't hurry, they'll kill him!
Vyrn: W-wait, for real?
Societte: ...
Societte: My parents were killed by evil people who wanted information on the royal family.
Vyrn: Say what?
Lyria: D-does that mean they're the same bad people who are targeting you, Societte?
Societte: To people like them, information on the royal families is as precious as any treasure. That's why they're after me. And if we don't do something, he's going to be in danger too.
Vyrn: Then we need to hurry!
Lyria: Oh, look over there!
Vyrn: Hm? A cave?
Societte: One of the men from earlier just went inside. That must be their hideout!
Societte: Let's go, (Captain)!
Thug 2: Whoa there! You're not getting past me!
Societte: ...?
Thug 2: It's payback time! And this time, I'm not gonna hold back!
Vyrn: You never learn, do you? Guess we have to make sure the lesson sticks, (Captain)!
Floral Arrangement: Scene 3[edit]
The crew finds the Erune man being questioned by the leader of the thugs, who realizes Societte's true identity after noticing her fan. The crew draw their weapons and prepare to save the Erune man.
The crew defeats the thugs and enters their hideout.
There, they find the Erune man being questioned.
Gang Leader: All right, time to talk! Tell us everything you know about the royal families and Ninetails!
Erune Man: Agh... Urgh... Never... I'll never tell you!
Societte: Stop!
Thug: Boss, that's her! The one I told you about!
Gang Leader: A fan bearing the crest of a royal family? Hahaha... You must be joking.
Gang Leader: I never expected an heir to a royal family—a successor to the power of Ninetails—would come right to me!
Vyrn: Hm? Ninetails?
Societte: ...
Gang Leader: You saved us the trouble of finding you! How lucky...
Societte: Are you the ones who killed my parents?
Gang Leader: Huh? What are you talking about?
Societte: ...
Societte: Why are ya after the power of Ninetails, then?
Gang Leader: Buh? So I can do whatever I want with the power of the almighty, obviously!
Societte: That's not gonna happen.
Societte: If you can't even beat me, the power of Ninetails will forever remain outside your grasp.
Gang Leader: What'd you say?
Gang Leader: Enough! Get them, men!
Societte: Here they come, (Captain)!
Floral Arrangement: Scene 4[edit]
(Captain)'s crew rescues the Erune man, who reveals he's a successor of the royal family, but doesn't have the information Societte is looking for. Societte attempts to leave the crew, but realizes the bond she now shares with them is deeper than she imagined.
(Captain) and company defeat the ruffians, but several of them manage to get away.
Thankfully, they still manage to successfully rescue the Erune man.
Erune Man: I can't thank you enough for rescuing me.
Erune Man: Terribly sorry about what happened back at the tavern...
Erune Man: That young miss over there was so elegant and dignified, I found myself at a loss for words.
Vyrn: Heheh! I know how you feel!
Lyria: Societte really is pretty, isn't she? I don't blame you for getting nervous.
Erune Man: Er, yes. As embarrassing as it is to say, I was simply quite nervous. My apologies.
Societte: Um, it's okay... I'm sorta responsible too.
Erune Man: Considering your beauty and elegance, I'm not surprised to hear you're of royal descent.
The Erune man explains why he arranged a meetup with the party.
As a descendant of a branch of a royal family, he had grown increasingly concerned about the number of people seeking the power of Ninetails.
When he heard the crew was searching for information on the royal families, he decided to find out what their intentions were.
Erune Man: I never even imagined I'd encounter a direct descendant of one of the royal bloodline, however.
Societte: Which royal family did you serve?
Erune Man: I'm sorry, but... my ancestors were of a very distant branch. I'm afraid I don't know which family they served under.
Erune Man: I was told stories of Ninetails and the royal families, but not much beyond that.
Societte: I see... Understood. Thank you.
Erune Man: I'm terribly sorry I couldn't be of help. Now, if you'll excuse me...
Vyrn: Hey now! Are you gonna be okay by yourself?
Erune Man: Yes, I'll be fine. I may have let my guard down earlier, but I can take care of myself, I assure you.
With that, the man thanks them once again and leaves.
Societte: ...
Vyrn: Hey, Societte. I've been wondering...
Vyrn: What's this Ninetails thing we keep hearing about?
Societte: Ninetails is a being of great power. My family served her for generations.
Lyria: Is that...
Societte: Yes. The true name of the living flame I'm searching for.
Vyrn: Gotcha... Why didn't you tell us?
Societte: I thought that if I told you about her, you would only end up being dragged into my conflict.
Societte: ...
Societte: S-so um... it's probably better if I continued my journey alone.
Lyria: Huh? W-why do you say that?
Societte: Well, think about those bad guys that escaped earlier.
Societte: They're coming after me next time. And they'll be chasing the power of Lady Ninetails.
Societte: So something like today might happen again... Or worse.
Choose: We can't leave you by yourself.
Societte: Huh?
Lyria: That's right! We can't leave you alone after hearing that!
Societte: B-but I—
Vyrn: No buts! Do you remember when we first met?
Societte: Yeah...
Lyria: We told you we were going to help you!
Lyria: So let's keep travelling together, okay?
Societte: You guys... Yer all so... nice.
Choose: If that's what you want...
Societte: Okay.
Societte's ears and tail droop sadly, and she turns to leave.
Lyria: Wait!
Societte: Huh?
Lyria: Is this what you really want, Societte?
Societte: ...
Lyria: I think (Captain) wants to know what you're really thinking. Isn't that right?
(Captain) quietly nods in response.
Lyria: Is this what you really want?
Societte: I-I... I want...
Societte: Sob...
Societte: I really... want y'all to gimme a hand...
Societte: I-I'd be so lonely on my own... without another soul to talk to...
Societte: I'd feel so helpless...
Vyrn: Well, you should have just said so!
Vyrn: Gotta help each other out when we can, y'know!
Societte: I-is it really okay for me to stay with you guys?
Continue 1Vyrn: Of course!
Lyria: Yeah! You're our friend!
Societte: Gasp... I'm... your friend...
Societte: U-um... Thanks for letting me stay... I really appreciate it.
Turning red up to her ears, Societte thanks the crew as they return to the airship together.
Still blushing, Societte feels a warm bond with her stalwart friends.
Fully Blossomed[edit]
When Societte reveals her royal bloodline, her childhood friend Yuel is angry at her for keeping secrets until she realizes Societte was only trying to protect her. Yuel convinces Societte that they should bear the burden of restoring their thousand-year legacy and seek the sacred treasures together. Societte begins teaching Yuel the ceremonial dance dedicated to Lady Ninetails.
Yuel: What the hell, Societte! Why didn't ya tell me this earlier!
Societte: Ah... Erm... Uh... Oh...
Yuel, seeker of a thousand-year heritage, and Societte, heritor of that very legacy, are reunited when they both join (Captain)'s crew.
Despite their familiarity with one another, they don't seem to see eye to eye.
Vyrn: Come on, guys, can't you just be happy to see each other?
Lyria: Yeah, Societte had her reasons...
Yuel: Hey! You guys stay outta this! This is between me an' Societte, ya hear?
Vyrn: Humph. Yuel's so mad, I don't think we're gonna be able to calm her down.
Societte has just revealed that she is in fact the scion of a vanished royal family.
When Yuel learns what her childhood friend has been hiding all this time, she is furious.
Yuel: I mean, who does that! You knew that I was tryin' to restore our people and recover those thousand years of lost history!
Societte: Um... But...
Yuel: But nothin'!
Societte: I... I'm sorry...
Yuel: ...
Yuel: Ugh! You're not gettin' it! I mean, I am mad that you've been hidin' this, but...
Yuel: I'm more hurt that you didn't trust me.
Societte: ...
Yuel: I... I trust you completely, you know? I mean, I love you.
Societte: Yuel...
Yuel: But maybe you don't feel the same way. Obviously you don't trust me.
Societte: No! That's not true at all...
Societte: Yuel, you mean more to me than anything. That's why I couldn't tell you.
Yuel: What's that s'pposed to mean?
Societte: Um... Well... Just watch... the first dance...
Yuel: Societte, you can use foxflame too? I thought I was the only one...
Societte: It's a very special gift. A thousand years ago, our ancestors worshipped Lady Ninetails—the power comes from her.
Societte: There are bad people... who'd do anything to get their hands on that power, or any knowledge of the royal family...
Societte: They... wouldn't think twice about killing to get it, either.
Yuel: What? So people are after you too?
Societte weakly nods her head.
Vyrn: Societte, I remember you said you lost your parents to some bad people...
Yuel: Really? So the reason you came to my village when we were little...
Societte: Before she died... my mother said that I'd be safe there...
Yuel: I... I had no idea.
Societte: I was so scared. I thought if I told you about what happened, and that I was part of the royal family...
Societte: Sniff... Then they might... get you too...
Societte: So I decided I'd never tell you, no matter what...
Societte: But then, you...
Yuel: Then it turned out I'd inherited that same power from our ancestors...
Societte: When that happened, I had no idea what I should do...
Yuel: Hmm... So that's why you looked so troubled that day I left the village.
Societte: You were so gung-ho about reviving the royal family. You kept saying it was your destiny.
Yuel: Yeah... When I realized I could use foxflame, I took it as some kinda sign from the heavens.
Yuel: I thought all it would take would be bringing together the sacred treasures and the right people. Stupid, I know.
Societte: No... It's just, if you want to revive the royal line, you need something else as well.
Societte: You need Lady Ninetails herself, and the right dance to honor her... plus the heritors of both the dance and the sacred treasures...
Yuel: I need to find all that?
Societte: It's going to be difficult, and dangerous.
Societte: I... I've been thinking. This quest you've started...
Societte: I think I should be the one to do it. I'm the heritor of the bloodline and that treasure, and I know the dance...
Societte: That way, you can...
Yuel: I see... Hm. All right. Let's go for a walk!
Societte: Huh? What?
Yuel: Come on! (Captain), you guys can come too! Me and Societte'll go on ahead!
With a smile ten miles wide, Yuel takes Societte by the hand and leaves the airship.
Lyria: W-wait! Yuel!
Societte: Yuel, what are we doing here? It's really creepy. I'm getting scared.
Yuel: I guess you're right, but we have to... Aha! There it is!
Yuel: Look! Over there! That spring! Look how clear that water is!
Societte: Wow! You're right! It's beautiful!
Yuel: Ahahaha! There, now you're not so scared, are ya?
Societte: Hmm... You're right! I'm not scared anymore! Heehee!
Yuel: See? Oh and what's this?
Yuel: Over here! Stand here and take a reeeal deep breath!
Societte: Hehe, okay! Mmm...
Societte: Huh? The air is so clear!
Yuel: Right? I've never smelled air so clean!
Societte: Incredible. I had no idea this place existed!
Yuel: Ahahaha! All right, on to the next one!
The crew, following Yuel into the forest, does as she instructs and hides in the undergrowth.
Yuel: Not long now... It'll be here soon...
Societte: Huh? What'll be here soon?
Yuel: There it is! That long-eared critter! It comes here a lot. Isn't it funny lookin'?
Societte: Ahahaha! You're right. But it's kinda cute too.
Emdina: !
Societte: Ah! It ran away!
Yuel: Ahahaha! It's always so shy! Let's follow it!
Societte: Heehee. Yeah! Come back, critter!
Yuel, Societte, and the crew spend the rest of the day frolicking.
Yuel: Wasn't that fun? Seeing new sights, finding new things...
Societte: Heehee. It was a bit tiring, but I had such a good time!
Yuel: I knew you'd enjoy treasure hunting!
Yuel: It's a quest, and I take it seriously, but there's fun to be had too! It can be a real adventure!
Yuel: I'm sorry, I just can't give this life up. I have to carry on searching for the sacred treasures.
Yuel: Besides, if I stopped treasure hunting, you'd be in more danger, wouldn't you?
Societte: Yeah...
Yuel: So you see, I have to carry on.
Yuel: I feel the same way you do, Societte. I don't want anyone I love to get hurt, or be sad...
Societte: Yuel...
Yuel: Phew... Besides. If we search together, we'll be more effective and safer, don'tcha think?
Yuel: If we're together, then nothing in this world can stop us. Right?
Societte: Oh...Yuel... Sob...
Yuel: But anyway, enough chatter...
Societte turns red in embarrassment as Yuel pats her on the head.
Societte: That day when you left the village, I'd have given anything to go with you.
Yuel: What! Then why didn't you say anything?
Societte: I... wanted to. But I was torn. I didn't know whether I wanted to stop you or join you.
Societte: And before I had a chance to say anything, you were already gone.
Yuel: So that's what really happened. I'm sorry. I had no idea you felt that way.
Societte: Don't apologize. If anything, I should be the one apologizing to you.
Societte: ...
Societte: Eh... ah... um! Yuel! If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you...
Societte: Can I... please join you?
Yuel: Ahaha! As if I'd say no after all this! Wild horses couldn't keep me away! Let's do this together!
Vyrn: Heheh, don't forget about us! We're here to help you on your quest!
Societte: Yuel... Vyrn... everyone. Thank you!
Tears glint in Societte's eyes, and though she tries to hide her emotion, her tail wags tellingly.
Yuel, seeing this, breaks into a smile and starts wagging her own tail. She gives Societte another pat on the head.
Yuel: H-hey, going back to what you said earlier...
Yuel: I'd... I'd really like to learn that special dance you mentioned.
Societte: Well, I think as long as you can use foxflame, you should be able to do it. I'll teach you the steps.
Yuel: Yay! You mean it? Awesome! You're the best, Societte!
Societte: Teehee...
Societte teaches Yuel the simple steps, and the two start dancing.
Societte dances with incredible precision and grace. And though Yuel is still learning, her dancing is expressive and passionate.
As they move, tongues of blue and red flame lick up around them.
Lit in those flickering colors, the two dancers captivate the entire crew with their performance.
