Hi! I'm a "50 something" Spaniard. I work as a Remote Support Technician at Telefonica, a big telecommunications company here in Spain. My interest in the English language goes back to my early teens, when Rock and Roll came bursting into my life and I realised that most of my favourite bands were either British or American. I'm talking late 70's, early 80's, so those would be The Police, The Cars... But, thanks to my big sister's friends, soon the likes of Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones broke through, followed by The Doors, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan... Almost immediately I felt I needed to learn how to play the guitar, and did so with the help of Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed e.a. Soon I switched from acoustic to electric, got myself a Fender Stratocaster, and... that's how I started this wonderful journey that's an enormously important part of my life: music. Eventually, I'd come to realise that English is very useful, not only for understanding the songs lyrics, but as a professional tool, too, so I decided to study more seriously; I got my degree, and finally fell in love with the language of Shakespeare; in fact, Shakespeare and his contemporaries (Marlowe, Ben Johnson e.a.) are my favourite readings, although I also enjoy so much Dickens, Bellow, Chandler... to name but a few. I love movies, too, and I choose the original version whenever possible (you know, here in Spain we have this unpleasant habit of dubbing the original scores... Most Spaniards have never heard Clint Eastwood or Marlon Brando's voices... but still claim they are their favourite actors! Crazy, isn't it?) Well, I guess this will do for the time being. I sincerely hope I can be of some help in this extraordinary community that's Stack Exchange. Lotta love from Spain!
