What sampling rate and bit depth would be necessary to make a digital recording indistinguishable from the original?

I'm assuming this is a solved question (please cite sources). It seems like a 96kHz sampling rate with 24-bit samples is standard for high-resolution audio, but is this considered to be indistinguishable from natural audio?
