A class of words whose most central members characteristically express spatial or temporal relations.

Depending on their placement, adpostions are named prepositions, postpositions, or circumpositions.

Examples include the English words "from", "to", "of", "by" (prepositions); "ago" (postposition); and "for ... sake" (circumposition).
