I have one strange problem with installer package. When i try to change the installed package using Setup.exe or launching app.msi manually; it directly starts installation of application without even showing Maintenance Mode window to user.

I have verified that after installation of application it has made proper entry in registry @[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall].

This use to work properly before and suddenly i'm getting this issue, even though there is no changes done while authoring package.

MaintenanceWelcome action condition in InstallUISequence
Installed And Not RESUME And Not Preselected And Not PATCH >> DEFAULT CONDITIONS
  Installed >> PASS
  Installed >> PASS
Installed And Not RESUME >> PASS
Installed And Not RESUME And Preselected >> PASS
Installed And Not RESUME And Preselected And PATCH >> PASS

Installed And Not RESUME And Not PATCH >> FAIL
Installed And Not Preselected And Not PATCH >> FAIL
Installed And Not RESUME And Not Preselected >> FAIL
  Installed And RESUME >> FAIL
Installed And Not RESUME And Preselected And Not PATCH >> FAIL

Thanks, Bala

Create an install log for more details: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7126077/create-an-msi-log-file – Ciprian Oct 12 '11 at 07:33
  • @Ciprian MSI (c) (8C:9C) [02:05:26:784]: Skipping action: MaintenanceWelcome (condition is false) MSI (c) (8C:9C) [02:05:26:784]: Doing action: SetupProgress Action 2:05:26: SetupProgress. ...................................................................................................Here, condition for MaintenanceWelcome is getting set as False - it has following default conditions - Installed And Not RESUME And Not Preselected And Not PATCH If we keep only "INSTALLED" and remove rest of the properties from condition then it shows Maintenance Welcome dialog. Please Help. – Bhalchandra K Oct 12 '11 at 10:46
  • It seems that either RESUME or Preselected properties are set. Please search the log and see their values. – Ciprian Oct 12 '11 at 10:53
  • I can not find RESUME and Preselected in MSI log file. – Bhalchandra K Oct 12 '11 at 10:55
  • Then the PATCH property must be set. Have you tried this scenario on a different computer? – Ciprian Oct 12 '11 at 10:58
  • Even PATCH is also not present in log file. Actually same package works on some VMWare ( Windows 2008 R2) machine but same configurations other VMWare machines have this strange problem. – Bhalchandra K Oct 12 '11 at 11:01
