Is IIS a web server or an application server? Or is it both? i want to konw that iis is like java clint server architecture or not and does iis have web server and application server ?

  • The official title is "IIS Web Server" but these days it's basically the same thing. Why have you tagged [tag:asp.net] and [tag:.net]? – Charlieface Jun 01 '22 at 08:46
  • Actually, IIS is a web server. But we also call asp.net web site as application. So IIS is used to host web application to let client access web site. – Bruce Zhang Jun 02 '22 at 06:30
