I'm trying to merge records that have similar names into one.

For example:

Lumiere Technologies,
Lumiere Tech, Inc.,
Mendes Metal SA - Central Office,
*** DO NOT USE *** Mendes Metal,
Mendes Metal, SA,
Ship to Klapisch Aerospace gmbh,
Klapisch Aero, gmbh Munich
Klapisch Aerospace tech (use Klapisch Aero, gmbh Munich acct 84719482-A)

would be combined into Lumiere, Mendes Metal, and Klapisch Aero or something similar.

I haven't been able to come up with anything at all, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • Maybe you need somthing like [PHP's similar_text method](https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.similar-text.php). – emilianolch Jun 01 '22 at 01:20
  • Does this answer your question? [Compare similarity between two string with PHP](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38136087/compare-similarity-between-two-string-with-php) – kmoser Jun 01 '22 at 04:25
  • Do you need to perform this on javascript side or on MySQL side? – Akina Jun 01 '22 at 04:38
  • Algorithm. #1. clear (replace to space) all chars except letters and spaces, divide values to words, gather words list. #2. Process the list (by hands) and mark the words which cannot identify (Technologies, SA, use, gmbh and so on). #3. Process rows against identifying words list, select groups which contains the same identifying words list and do not interfere with another groups. – Akina Jun 01 '22 at 04:43
