My school is teaching C++ as the primary programming language, and I want to get a head start for the upcoming semester. I watched a bit of introduction to programming videos on YouTube, and have written a ton of personal notes that I review on a daily basis. I don't know where to go to learn C++ as a beginner. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Since your school is "teaching C++", I presume that your school will provide all the appropriate books and learning material for the students. So, go ask your teacher? – Sam Varshavchik May 31 '22 at 01:55

See: [The Definitive C++ Book Guide and List](https://stackoverflow.com/q/388242/3422102) and use [cppreference.com](https://en.cppreference.com/) as your reference (best on the net) – David C. Rankin May 31 '22 at 02:34

Steer clear of the coding challenge/competition sites for now. They can be fun or good practice once you get a good grasp on the language, but the stuff they teach is primarily math tricks and bad habits, not programming. It often feels like half the questions we get at Stack Overflow are from folks who got frustrated because they can't figure out the secret trick needed to solve a puzzle without running out of time or memory or got bamboozled by some unreadable nonsense code that crashes at lightning speed except when run with the exact competition inputs and target hardware. – user4581301 May 31 '22 at 02:56
