brew always ends up with tons of posts on uninstalling issues, files all over the place. We are already hitting that and want to avoid that going forward. We download the tar.gz from https://nodejs.org/en/download/

and after uninstalling it and doing the "xattr -d com.apple.quarantine", we can do node -v fine but npm is not working

dean@Deans-MacBook-Pro ~ % ./.node/v16.14.0x64/bin/npm --version
env: node: No such file or directory

How to fix this?

This install is super nice as it is all in one directory and uninstall is simply delete the directory instead of having files all over the place.
