Maybe this question has been asked a lot here, but I am wondering if git has any official solutions of trying to work around the following scenario:

REPOSITORY: Containing 3 (three) folders

weather/
       barcelona_weather/
       tokyo_weather/
       frankfurt_weather/
       london_weather/
       ...

news/
       barcelona_news/
       tokyo_news/
       frankfurt_news/
       london_news/
       ...

comments/
        whole_comments/

I am trying to clone to my local PC the folder weather only using:

git clone git@gitlab.com:wncproject/monorepo.git#:weather

Also tried:

git clone git@gitlab.com:wncproject/monorepo.git#master:weather

Both of them return:

remote:
remote: ========================================================================
remote:
remote: The namespace you were looking for could not be found.
remote:
remote: ========================================================================
remote:
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Am I misinterpreting something?

    This appears to be an answer: https://askubuntu.com/questions/460885/how-to-clone-only-some-directories-from-a-git-repository/729798#729798. It was found by just searching on your title. I won't downvote this but use due diligence to search next time – Oliver Williams Aug 04 '21 at 09:58
