I am looking to implement a cross browser solution for checking if 3rd party cookies can be set. My initial implementation was based off the solutions discussed here.
All works perfectly for checking if a domain I own has the ability to set cookies, however the Firefox 95% of users allowed the setting of cookies, which seemed odd as I know they are building more privacy focused features. The reason seems to be due to the fact that the domain I am using in not on their "known trackers" list.
What I would like to know is can ad based sites (google et al) set cookies - so is it possible for some on page JS to ascertain if a 3P domain managed to set cookies?
My gut feeling is that the answer is no, but hoping SO can come to the rescue with a cool idea!
