I'm a student in Full Stack Development Bootcamp. When I was thinking about what is an API? and searching for it's definitions on the Google a very long time ago, even I understood the meaning of definitions, I actually didn't know what exactly it is. is it another software program? its saying interface.. so how it would look like then?.

But now I've got an idea that "it is an 'URL' combined with domain, paths and parameters just to make a connection with the server to access some data".

I want to confirm that if any interviewer asks me what is an API? Then, can I say my above lines?

  • I can think of an awful lot of APIs that are very definitely _not_ just URLs. so, the short answer is "no", and the long answer is too long to be reasonable for a Q&A site. – Useless Jun 09 '21 at 13:48
