I have a project where I need to be able to create and print a pattern with accurate sizes. In other words, I need a line declared to be 1" to actually be 1" when printed to paper. I'm not sure where to begin looking for the answers. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I feel like I'm using the wrong terms to search.

Maybe you are looking for "Points to inches" -> https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36618965/how-to-find-ppi-programmatically-with-precision – aheze Apr 28 '21 at 16:38

That's good for screens but doesn't get me to paper. – Robert Schmid Apr 28 '21 at 19:29

1@RobertSchmid - Was about to post as an answer, but... One approach would be to draw to a pdf document. The standard coordinate system is 72 PPI (Points Per Inch) which is not to be confused with DPI (printed Dots Per Inch). See example here: https://gist.github.com/DonMag/dddae6e14563de97455b956bc5f5defc – DonMag Apr 28 '21 at 21:41

@DonMag I'm hoping this is not the only approach but it does appear to be viable for my needs. – Robert Schmid Apr 29 '21 at 03:12

It's been so long since I had to think this way that I had forgotten the basics of printing - PCL, Postscript, PDF and https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/2DDrawing/Conceptual/DrawingPrintingiOS/Printing/Printing.html – Robert Schmid Apr 29 '21 at 14:27
