Border-radius 50% not producing even circle?

Question

What am I missing here? I have a css span class with

border-radius: 50%;

but it shows not an even circle but an uneven one, see "live" http://ufp.framefaktur.de/en/promote/

The element should be exactly square to get a circle with border-radius property. Try setting the height and width to the same fixed value.
