I need to determine shared variability between fixed and random effects in a mixed model in R:

MODEL <- lmer(LNC ~ Soil.VAR + (1 | ZONE)

# calculates the marginal R2 + conditional R2,
# but I am interested in shared variability
r.squaredGLMM(MOD)

  • By "shared variability" do you simply mean the covariance, as available through `cov()`? The definition of fixed vs. random effects also varies across sources https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/4700/what-is-the-difference-between-fixed-effect-random-effect-and-mixed-effect-mode.
