In Android, Is it possible to programmatically simulate a key press from within my app so that the current keyboard shows the key being pressed?

I'd like to simulate keys being pressed on the current keyboard(this could be different on different devices) and I would like the keys on the device's keyboard to display the key pressed(assuming that the selected keyboard shows a reaction to a key being pressed).

For example, on my current keyboard, when I pressed a key, it shows a popup of the key that I pressed. I would like my program to simulate this key being pressed including the popup.

The other answer doesn't work. Instead, it shows text being typed but it doesn't actually show the keyboard pop-up. – SBTlauien Jun 30 '17 at 05:26
This is not a duplicate indeed, I vote for reopen. Anyway I don't think it can be done without simulating a tap on the right location. – stommestack Jul 18 '17 at 13:42
