I have a TreeView, which parses into ArrayList and serializes to file. Then, after loading from file, it parses back into TreeView. But something doesn't work. It seems like TreeView in the app and loaded TreeView don't correspond properly.

To clear out what I'm trying to say, here's the code of LoadFromFile() method, activitiesTree is the written in FXML TreeView:

    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("tree.txt");
    ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(fis);
    activities=(ArrayList)ois.readObject();
    ois.close();
    activitiesTree=parseIntoTree(activities);
    activitiesTree.refresh();

But nothing happens in the app. Tree stays the same. When I try to do something with it i get NPE. In other words - treeActivities in the GUI doesn't reflects what I have under the hood. Parsed tree is alright, and I can't figure out what's the problem.

Here's the stacktrace:

More so, System.out.println(activitiesTree.getRoot().getChildren().toString());

and System.out.println(parseIntoTree(activities).getRoot().getChildren().toString());

show the exact same output. It seems like activitiesTree doesn't reinitialize after this line:

activitiesTree=parseIntoTree(activities);
  • Possible duplicate of [What is a NullPointerException, and how do I fix it?](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/218384/what-is-a-nullpointerexception-and-how-do-i-fix-it) – John3136 Apr 21 '17 at 01:43
  • @John3136 nope, new activitiesTree has all the right elements, it is just do not reflects in the GUI, so when i try to edit old TreeView(it hasn't changed in the GUI), it tries to check with data in program memory, doesn't find any proper data, and throws NPE at me. In other words - treeActivities in the GUI doesn't reflects what I have under the hood. – Vadim Shmyrov Apr 21 '17 at 01:48
  • and yet you don't show the stack trace... – John3136 Apr 21 '17 at 01:50
  • @John3136 did that. Doubt that'll really help – Vadim Shmyrov Apr 21 '17 at 03:10
