index.php, signup.php and dbh.php and when i run index.php it opens in chrome fine. the code works but when i enter the details and press sign up it only displays php code. this should mean that im not connected to a server but i have xampp running. no errors come up when i run it. but the browser bar still shows: file:///C:/xampp/htdocs/PHPMYADMIN/index.php. I have already looked at several videos and looked here at several people who have had the same problem but they werent running xampp and thats what they're problem was.

can someone explain why please

You should check your dbh.php file. I think some error will display on your browser if you got something incorrect with database. Or you can check for the log file in xampp to make sure is there any error in here

Would like to make a comment, but I don't have enough points. It isn't running because you are opening up the file through your browser. You need to type localhost/PHPMYADMIN/index.php in the address bar. That way you are serving the page and not just opening it with your browser.
