So here is my issue: a new client has an existing working Access system. The tables are in files on the server (Server 2003) and the front end is on 2 clients (Windows XP, Access 2007). I have copied both and placed then on PC's in my own workshop(Windows XP, Access 2007), even renaming one to replicate their server name and the path to the tables. When I try to open the client file I get "The database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it cannot be read". I have returned to site where it is still working quite happily and taken a second copy in case that one was corrupted (I made sure everyone was logged out first), but still the same.

The solution suggested at The database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it cannot be read does not apply because the system is still operational and working, but I am unable to take a backup and launch it on my own machine. If I try to decompile it then the same message as above appears.

Can anybody help, please?

TIA Caspar

  • Possible duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12804378/the-database-cannot-be-opened-because-the-vba-project-contained-in-it-cannot-be - try the fix mentioned there. – LocEngineer Jan 26 '17 at 12:38

  • Sadly the fix suggested at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12804378/the-database-cannot-be-opened-because-the-vba-project-contained-in-it-cannot-be does not resolve my issue - any other ideas, please? – Caspar Jan 27 '17 at 14:29
  • Could you please provide a little more info? a) MDB, ACCDB, ACCDE, or MDE? b) What do you mean with `renaming one to replicate their server name and the path to the tables`? Renamed what? The Access file? Part of a module? What? c) Does your "workshop" have access to the server, i.e. is it in the same network? Are you using a mapped drive to your server or UNC paths? d) Have you tried opening in debug mode by holding shift button when opening the Access file? – LocEngineer Jan 27 '17 at 15:09
  • @LocEngineer a) ACCDB, b) & c) sorry for the confusion. My network is not connected to theirs. I renamed one of the PC's on my network to be identical to what their server is called and then placed the back end files (one ACCDB plus one MDB) on that machine so as to exactly replicate the UNC path. d) Yes I have tried holding down the Shift key, but sadly it's just the same - to clarify this means on my PC with the backup I brought back from site, I have not tried that on site (where it continues to work perfectly happily). Many thanks – Caspar Jan 28 '17 at 19:39
