I have several tables in a SS 2016 database with IDENTITY(1,1). All of these tables were created before any data were added. I am the only one with access to these tables. I've added data and in some cases added a new column but nothing else.

The numbering of the ID is inconsistent. In other words, the numbers may go something like this: 1,2,3,....10000,10001,10002,....20000,20001,20002 .... where the "...." indicates jump to the next number.

I'm curious why this may be happening. I am aware that it will not affect my database functionality at all. As I am somewhat new to SS I am, as mentioned, just curious.

    It is well known. [here](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14162648/sql-server-2012-column-identity-increment-jumping-from-6-to-1000-on-7th-entry) and [here](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14146148/identity-increment-is-jumping-in-sql-server-database) – McNets Jan 15 '17 at 23:59

The link is a great answer. I swear I looked at every link that SO suggested and didn't see anything similar. Sorry about the dup. – SezMe Jan 16 '17 at 01:01
