Pre-installed languages

I would like to increase my site's compatibility with phones, and I'm wondering what web design languages are default in smartphones or flip phones. Here are the languages I'm using.

  • HTML (Transitional)

  • CSS3

  • JavaScript

Basically the standard stuff. I'm questioning these phones:

  • iPhone 4 and newer

  • Android

  • Samsung smartphones

  • Verizon phones

  • Windows phones

  • Flip phones from Verizon and Cricket

If you know another phone brand that only supports certain languages, tell me.

The three languages you refer to are the 'languages of the web' - almost all websites nowadays use all three to craft any number of different outcomes (HTML for structure, CSS for style and Javascript for interactivity/actions, etc).

All modern smartphones will be able to read all three of these languages through their web browser, usually extremely well.

If you're happy with your current website when accessed through a desktop/laptop, but it lacks finesse when accessed via a mobile platform, it's usually a very simple job to make it "responsive" (i.e. so it renders in a different order/with different font sizes etc) for mobile.

If, however, you're looking to design a totally new website both for browser AND mobile, you should probably look to build it mobile-first from the ground up, using a modern CSS framework like Blaz has just suggested.

All standard smartphone web browsers should only support HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

If you are trying to design your website to be compatible with mobile devices I suggest you take a look at some Responsive CSS Frameworks for Web Design. Some of the most popular ones right now are Bootstrap, Foundation and Semantic UI.
