I tried signing an apk file following this link. The apk didn't get installed on my Nexus 5. Then I followed this link and signed the apk by going into release mode in Build Variants. Still the apk doesn't get installed. Can someone please help me ? I need to get the app released quickly (in 2 hours). Thanks.

why do you need a release version? What apk files are in the `/build/outputs/apk/` folder? FYI "installing an application" is different to "creating a release apk" – Blundell Mar 06 '16 at 14:43

did you allowed option "install from other sources" from developers options panel in your Nexus ? – Evgeniy Mishustin Mar 06 '16 at 14:45

@LuciusHipan Yes it is enabled in Settings -> Security – user2125722 Mar 06 '16 at 14:54

@Blundell There is a an apk called app-release-unaligned. It doesn't install either. – user2125722 Mar 06 '16 at 14:54

You should install app-debug.apk – Niels Masdorp Mar 06 '16 at 15:06

check your application id, defined in gradle.build file. it must be like com.yourAppName.CompanyName – Developine Mar 06 '16 at 15:11

also check what is min sdk version in your build.gradle file. may be it is greator then your device version. – Developine Mar 06 '16 at 15:13

@NielsMasdorp Ok, the app gets installed on my Moto G. So could it be due to some issue on obtaining permissions in Marshmallow ? – user2125722 Mar 06 '16 at 15:31

I dont think so. What are the Android versions on Moto G and Nexus 5? – Niels Masdorp Mar 06 '16 at 15:35
-
@NielsMasdorp Moto G - 5.1 (Lollipop) Nexus 5 - 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) – user2125722 Mar 06 '16 at 15:40

That should not matter, when you are able to install the application on 5.1 you should be able to install it on Marshmallow as well. What is the message when the install fails? Are you able to run the app on the Nexus 5 with Android Studio? – Niels Masdorp Mar 06 '16 at 17:50

@NielsMasdorp Yes I can run the app on Nexus 5 with Android Studio. – user2125722 Mar 07 '16 at 04:16
