I have a PHP page which redirects Android users to Google Play and iOS users to iTunes store for my apps. I am in the process of publishing my android apps on Amazon. When clicks take users to my PHP page, how can I determine if they should be redirected to the Amazon store or Google play, given that they are Android users? Thank you.

  • It'd be a very longshot... one might have both Iphones, Ipads, galaxies... or replace one for another at will – Julio Soares Oct 19 '15 at 13:55

What do you want the determining factor to be? AFAIK Amazon app store is just another store available to android users, so both that and the Google Play store could be destinations for android users. – Wobbles Oct 19 '15 at 13:56
  • Why not just let your users choose from which store to install? – InbetweenWeekends Oct 19 '15 at 14:11
  • The idea is, a user sees an ad for my app, either within another one of my apps or on a facebook post that my users can make. They click on the link, which takes them to my PHP page. I can determine whether they're iOS users or Android users from the PHP and direct them accordingly, but I'm not sure how to detect if they're Amazon. It would be ideal if I could redirect the Amazon users to their store, which would most likely be their preference, and redirect the Google users to Google play. – Gunnar Oct 19 '15 at 14:14
  • I got it. What i was trying to say is unless I am browsing from an iOS or Android device, I wouldn't like a site to try to guess my preference based on me having an Amazon account or apple id. One thing that drives me crazy, for instance, is google showing me pages in dutch because it just so happens that I live in the Netherlands. Now... I can't afford not using goolge but I can get away from using apps that behave in a way I don't like – Julio Soares Oct 19 '15 at 14:20
  • Related (but not really a dupe): [Detect if Android app has been installed on the device using a mobile web page - PHP and JS](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12856773/detect-if-android-app-has-been-installed-on-the-device-using-a-mobile-web-page). If this had a working solution, you could have checked if the Google Play store/Amazon store was installed. – HPierce Oct 19 '15 at 14:20
  • Wobbles: The idea is that generally Amazon users will be all set up for Amazon store, so it's more convenient to direct them to where they already have an account, have provided credit card info, etc. Julio: if I bring an iOS user to Google Play, for example, I've inconvenienced them because they can't make use of anything there. – Gunnar Oct 19 '15 at 14:46
  • Wobbles: to distinguish Android & iOS, there are keywords I can look for in HTTP_USER_AGENT which tell me whether I'm dealing with iOS, Android or other; I'm hoping I might have some similar option for Amazon. HPierce: thank you, I appreciate that - as you mentioned, though, it doesn't quite address my concern. – Gunnar Oct 19 '15 at 14:52
