I got a developer to develop an IOS app for me. He sent me the IPA. Now my problem is I am not able to get it installed on my phone to try it. I have IOS 8 iphone and ITunes 12.1 (I have both Mac and Windows). On the iMac, whenever I double click on the IPA and click on install/sync, it keeps saying installing.

I read so many posts about alternate methods but they seem outdated or I am missing something.

Can you please tell me how can I get the IPA installed on my phone?

Thank you

PS: I am android developer so this ios terminology thing is new to me

  • why don't you use TestFlight? and did you try to distribute and install your ipa via Dropbox? http://jslim.net/blog/2014/03/31/distribute-ios-app-via-website/ i use that method and it works if you use correct URLs – Mert Buran Mar 23 '15 at 14:06

Is your iOS developer still available to create an ipa for you? if so, have that dev share this build through iTunes Connect Test Flight. Or have the ipa re-signed with your device listed on it. – Nitin Alabur Mar 23 '15 at 14:08

  • I checked the dropbox link. It needs plist. What is plist? My developer just provided ipa file – Snake Mar 23 '15 at 19:49
  • @Nitin, what do you mean by having the IPA re-signed with my device. What was it signed with originally? – Snake Mar 23 '15 at 19:51
  • The developer who sent you the build, would have used a private key, to generate a certificate signing request, uploaded to the Apple Developer account. Apple creates a certificate with that CSR, and developer downloads the Cert. Since the developer has the key used to sign the CSR, the downloaded certificate is tied to that key, and the developer can use a provisioning profile thats created using that cert. Now, if your device is not on that provisioning profile, you give your phone's UDID to that developer, ask him to add it and rebuild/resign with the new provisioning profile – Nitin Alabur Mar 24 '15 at 16:31
  • your developer can create a new IPA with the old build (or new one), but with a new provisioning profile which has your device listed in it. – Nitin Alabur Mar 24 '15 at 16:33

Alright Here Is What I Would Do Install Alt Store (Works On Most Devices) Then Login With Your Apple Account (To Use Beta Feturese) Sign Up For Beta Then Trust Unknown Sources Then Try The IPA File It Might Work I Have Nerver Done It Before But I Think It Should Work
