<link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

My favicon worked great on all browsers for the first week and then stopped working on Chrome and IE but still works on Firefox. Any ideas?

Favicon is a real .ico file with 4 size variants and is placed in the root folder of the website and the HTML tags are in the head of the document. Doctype is HTML 5.

  • works for me in Chrome. Are you sure you cleared your favicon cache? See also http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10934192/favicon-doesnt-update?rq=1 and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2208933/how-do-i-force-a-favicon-refresh – leo Jul 16 '14 at 18:14
  • So should I replace my second line and add "?v=2" to the favicon.ico file name as suggested in the link you posted? – oceanic815 Jul 16 '14 at 18:19
  • If you made any changes to the icon, that is one way. If it's just your local copy that is corrupt, google for the location of favicons on your OS and remove the local files – leo Jul 16 '14 at 18:25
