I'm using Visual Studio 2012 Update 4. I'm currently writing a WPF application. When I Debug-Run the application the first time it starts ok. If I stop it and try to run it quickly again it sometimes runs but often doesn't do anything except the fans on my laptop start getting noisy because of a sudden spike in CPU caused by devenv.exe. Once it calmed down I can try again and it will work.

I tried disabling various add-ons like Resharper but it didn't make a difference. Running VS in Safe Mode also didn't make a difference. Anybody any idea what causes this strange behaviour and how to fix it?

  • Are you making sure you're shutting the app down properly? http://stackoverflow.com/a/9992888/279516 – Bob Horn May 26 '14 at 13:35
  • Not sure what you mean. I generally use the stop debugging command or close the application from within, either way doesn't make a difference. – JohnCambell May 26 '14 at 14:19
  • If you don't shut down a WPF app properly, it will look likes it's closed but still be running. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't causing your issue. – Bob Horn May 26 '14 at 15:08
