I am Working on a project to develop an application to perform OCR on English Text on an Android mobile phone.

I am hoping to use an existing open source OCR engine. like tesseract for example.

Can anyone please help me? point me in the right direction? this is my first ever project.

there is a tesseract for android!

beware: OCR does use a lot of CPU power. trying to OCR a A4 page with your T-Mob G1 will take a lot of time and the result may not impress you ;-)
