I'm wondering if it's possible to lock the screen orientation for a mobile device when viewing a web site (particularly a vaadin touchkit app).

With Vaadin Touchkit, you cannot use any mobile platform specific features like notification, alarm services, account services etc.. You can only build web applications which cannot lock mobile screen orientation. Find more details on Vaadin Touchkit and comparisons with similar technogies like ZK Mobile at: http://jtechnoprojects.blogspot.in/2012/12/vaadin-touchkit-vs-zk-mobile-vs.html

Welcome to StackOverflow! It's quite ok to do self-promotion here. However, if you are affiliated with this blog, please make that clear in your answer, otherwise your post might end up being flagged as spam. – Alexis Pigeon Dec 14 '12 at 14:45

No. Vaadin follows the same rules as all web applications, and this question has been asked/answered quite a few times on StackOverflow. This question has a hack to compensate for the orientation, but it's definitely not ideal.
