backtracking from the solutions to the clues to figure out the words then putting them in the intro text (which also provides the lengths of each word and their order) the following phrase is uncovered:

However, there's more to this puzzle. In addition, I originally had trouble with 23/25 across because...

ISAAC NEWTON fits there as well! Apparently this also fits with 10A, but I had never heard of Newtonmas (thanks Stiv!) which really threw me for a loop.

    great answer, with everything I wanted to see! a couple minor gripes: I'm not sure if it was a typo or if you found this variant somewhere, but I'm not familiar with {dhnuntf} at 39a; I intended {dhnubtf}, though {dhnunhtf} is an alternate spelling I'm familiar with. I also intended the {wbr begba cynl} at 18d, but the one you found works equally as well :) nicely done! – juicifer Dec 24 '23 at 13:05

    @juicifer I originally had {dhnunht} so I think I just shortened it once I found 13D based on what I thought it was without checking its spelling, and of course it didn't affect any intersections so I never verified Will fix! – samm82 Dec 25 '23 at 00:26
