Although there are no specific rules, many tricks mainly consists of flying kicks, jumps, flips and twists.

The sport became more popular in the early 2000s due to exposure via Internet movies. Tricking is often associated with free running or Xtreme Martial Arts (XMA). Some people consider XMA as the precursor of tricking.
