Understanding the でも in 「突っ切る時に万が一子供を轢きでもしたら大変である。」
Consider
でも突っ切る時に万が一子供を轢きでもしたら大変である。
But, if by chance when I break across, it would be awful if I were to run over a kid.

or

The guy wakes up inside an airplane, asks 今はなんでもない (translated as: Where are we now?) and the response is above some city in Swiss.
My question is: How is this sentence transformed to a question about location?. No dictionary gives me a hint.
