常用漢字. A subset of (currently 2136) kanji approved by the Ministry of Education.

The jōyō kanji consist of a list of characters recommended for use in newspaper etc., as well as a list of approved readings for each character. It received an update in 2010, which removed 5 and added 196 kanji to the list, as well as changing some of the approved readings. Currently, the list contains 2,136 characters.
