Most people completely miss the purpose of Jesus' mission in 30AD. He did not come to begin the "Church" but rather to be call the Jewish people to prepare for the kingdom, gather the lost sheep of Israel, ratify the new covenant in his death, taste suffering, and be rejected by the Jewish leadership. That was his purpose. He did not come to be understood. It was predicted in prophecy and he said so much repeatedly during his ministry:
Mat 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing
see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. Mat
13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith,
By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye
shall see, and shall not perceive: Mat 13:15 For this people's heart
is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes
they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and
should be converted, and I should heal them.
However, this was only half the of the mystery. The other half was revealed through Paul:
Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of
this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that
blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the
Gentiles be come in.
However, God was also acting redemptively toward the Jews as well because after the fullness of the gentiles has been gathered in Israel's blindness will be lifted:
Luk_1:16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord
their God.
2Co_3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall
be taken away.
Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall
be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. Rom 11:24
For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature,
and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much
more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their
own olive tree? Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye
should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own
conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the
fulness of the Gentiles be come in. Rom 11:26 And so all Israel
shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the
Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: Rom 11:27 For
this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Rom
11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but
as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now
obtained mercy through their unbelief: Rom 11:31 Even so have these
also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain
mercy. Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that
he might have mercy upon all. Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches
both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his
judgments, and his ways past finding out! Rom 11:34 For who hath
known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Rom
11:35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed
unto him again? Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him,
are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Paul exclaims "how unsearchable are his judgments" in 11:33. This tells us that even when God brings judgment he may bring about grace:
Hab 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD,
revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years
make known; in wrath remember mercy. Hab 3:3 God came from Teman,
and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the
heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. Hab 3:4 And his
brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and
there was the hiding of his power. Hab 3:5 Before him went the
pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet. Hab 3:6 He
stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the
nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual
hills did bow: his ways are everlasting. Hab 3:7 I saw the tents of
Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did
tremble. Hab 3:8 Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was
thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that
thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation? Hab
3:9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the
tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with
rivers. Hab 3:10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the
overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and
lifted up his hands on high. Hab 3:11 The sun and moon stood still
in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at
the shining of thy glittering spear. Hab 3:12 Thou didst march
through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in
anger. Hab 3:13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,
even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of
the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck.
Selah. Hab 3:14 Thou didst strike through with his staves the head
of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their
rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly. Hab 3:15 Thou didst
walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great
waters. Hab 3:16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered
at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in
myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up
unto the people, he will invade them with his troops. Hab 3:17
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the
vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield
no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be
no herd in the stalls: Hab 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I
will joy in the God of my salvation. Hab 3:19 The LORD God is my
strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make
me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed
