Outside the arena, however, she's practically a different person—weak of will to the point that those used to seeing her in combat would barely recognize her. Before a match, she shakes with fear, turning beet red in front of the roaring throngs. Once she picks up a sword, though, her mind switches into combat mode and her confidence builds rapidly, transforming her into the fierce warrior her fans know and love.

Jewel of the Casino Liner[edit]

On a casino liner, the crew is approached by a rather timid woman who's soon called to the arena by an official. She turns out to be Therese, the idol duelist. To polish her skills, she joins the crew on their journey.

Katalina: Hmm... seems like that intel about the primal crystal was a load of bunk.
Vyrn: But I'm still glad we came. It's a great change of pace!
Lyria: Wow! Everything's so shiny and sparkly! I don't even know where to look!
Hoping to learn more about primal crystals, our heroes find themselves on a casino liner surrounded by other travelers.
The ship's interior is both lively and opulent, and the crew can hardly contain its excitement.
Lyria: Look, (Captain)! What's that?
Katalina: Lyria! Stay close! I doubt it was a good idea to even bring you here in the first place.
Vyrn: I think you got yourself a prime mom candidate, Lyria.
Vyrn: But we're sort of world travelers! You gotta take the leash off once in a while, you know? Let her run free!
Katalina: Wha? Mom? I'm not even...
Therese: Um... Excuse me.
Vyrn: Hmm?
Therese: What you said... is it true? That is to say... about traveling the world?
Vyrn: Yep. (Captain) and us, we're skyfarers.
Vyrn: We're looking for something out there in the world, or maybe it's better to say beyond it.
Therese: Then I'd like to ask you something, if you wouldn't mind. Would it be too much trouble... I mean, do you think I could go with—
Official: Therese! You need to hurry! You're almost up!
Therese: Oh! Sorry...
Vyrn: What was that?
Katalina: Is it just me, or are the people around us in a fervor? What's going on here?
Spectator: It's the ship's main event! Who're you and the lizard betting on in the duel?
Vyrn: Who you calling a lizard, chump? Wait, what d'you mean by who?
Spectator: Wha? You don't know? Ah, you must be first-timers.
Spectator: But I guess it's your lucky day, because I'll clue you in. The duels I'm talking about are battles in this ship's arena.
Spectator: The spectators bet on whichever duelist they want to win.
Lyria: What? Battles? But won't somebody get hurt?
Spectator: Maybe a little. But hey, that's part of the fun! Ha ha!
Spectator: Ah! It's starting! The duelists are coming out! So who'll it be?
Vyrn: What? Hey, (Captain)! Check it out! Isn't that the girl who was just talking to us?
Duelist: ...
Lyria: But check out all the muscles on the other one... Looks like quite a beast!
Vyrn: Aw, c'mon! How is this a fair fight? Who in their right mind would bet on the girl here?
Spectator: Ha ha! How little you know. Just watch. They're about to start!
Katalina: I can't believe it!
Duelist: What a pathetic display! It'll take more than some muscles attached to a big chunk of stupid to best me!
Duelist: Lovely audience! I hope you're feeling fired up! That was just a taste of what's to come! Sit back and enjoy the show!
Vyrn: Wait, what? Is that really the girl from earlier?
Spectator: Ha ha! Bet that threw you for a loop, eh? That woman is none other than Therese, our dueling idol!
Spectator: Whooo! You couldn't ask for a more lovely bloom of azure to adorn a gaming ship! Hey, Therese! You're the best!
Katalina: That can't be the same woman. What in the heck is happening?
Therese: Um... hey!
Vyrn: Whoa! You're the girl from earlier. Therese, right?
Therese: I was hoping we could, um, finish our talk from earlier...
Therese: Do you think I could, maybe, you know, join you on your journey?
Therese: I can't believe I actually said it!
Katalina: Why? If you don't mind me asking.
Therese: I think you might have seen, but I'm a duelist.
Therese: I've still got a lot to learn though, and I'm not sure whether I'm even entertaining my audience...
Vyrn: Are you kidding? A lot to learn? You're being modest. I mean, you were so into your show earlier.
Therese: Cut it out! It's like... once the duel starts, a switch flips inside me...
Therese: Anyway, I just want to be a better duelist!
Therese: For that, I need a lot of experience. And I hope to one day challenge some legendary duelists.
Katalina: Hm? Legendary?
Therese: Yes. I've only heard rumors, but...
Therese: Apparently they're not only great fighters, they really know how to give the crowd a great show.
Vyrn: I see. Legends, huh? What do you think, (Captain)?
  1. Sure, why not?
  2. Somebody's dreaming.

Choose: Sure, why not?
Therese: !
Vyrn: Ha ha! Knew you'd say that. We're a bunch of dream chasers ourselves.

Choose: Somebody's dreaming.
Therese: Oh... um...
Vyrn: But it's not like we're any different. Right, (Captain)?
Continue 1
Therese: So... uh, I guess...
Lyria: Yeah! We can be dreamers together!
Therese: Thank you so much! I'm, uh... I'm so happy to hear that!
Vyrn: Still, I'm having trouble believing she doesn't have a twin or something...
Gambler: What sort of scam are you tryin' to pull here?
Flimflam Man: What? C'mon, bro! Hate the game not the player!
Katalina: Looks like somebody's unhappy.
Therese: ...
Vyrn: What's with you, Therese?
Vyrn: Eh... Oh! Hey!
Therese: You there.
Flimflam Man: Wha?
Therese: You dare disgrace the sanctity of the duel? I do hope you weren't expecting to escape punishment for that.
Flimflam Man: Eek! Please! Spare me!
Lyria: Oh my... You're really something, Therese!
And so the beautiful duelist Therese, the pride of the casino liner, joins our heroes.
The crew continues its journey, in search of dreams waiting beyond the furthest known reaches of the sky.

Pride of a Duelist[edit]

The casino liner is bustling with the triumphant return of the idol duelist. Since it's her first duel in a while, the crew members are nervous. They sense someone watching them. When monsters suddenly appear, Therese switches to battle mode.

Vyrn: Wow, look at this! The casino liner is bustling as always! Isn't this exciting, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Hey, Therese! The casino liner is roaring at the triumphant return of their idol duelist!
Therese: Ahh! Wh-what should I do? I'm starting to get nervous!
Therese: (Captain), do you think I'll be able to live up to my fans' expectations?
Vyrn: Come on, Therese! You're so tense you look like you've forgotten how to walk! You get nervous so easily!
Vyrn: As shy as she is, it's almost unbelievable how she changes when she starts dueling! Right, (Captain)?
Therese: Isn't this skirt a bit too short? Do I look weird? Oh! This is so embarrassing!
Lyria: It's okay! You look great in that! Keep calm, Therese!
Katalina: Anyone else feel that?
Rackam: Oh... Did you notice too?
Katalina: Yeah, someone was watching us, but they seem to be gone now. Still, it's pretty creepy.
Rackam: What do you want to do, (Captain)? Want to check it out?
Katalina: Hm. So it's not a mistake. I'm sure that someone, or something, is watching us.
Rackam: Hey, Therese. You know all about the casino liner, right? Do you have any idea who might be watching?
Therese: Um... An idea? I'm sorry. I don't know either...
Katalina: I guess that means we'll have to let it go for now.
Vyrn: Look, (Captain)! Something is coming! A monster!
Katalina: Ugh... I can't believe a monster would show up here. Someone clearly set this up.
Therese: No way... Monsters in the casino with so many people?
Therese: If you interfere with the duels, I'll show you no mercy! I'll crush you!
Vyrn: Looks like Therese has switched to battle mode! You gotta keep up, (Captain)!

Pride of a Duelist: Scene 2[edit]

The monsters were let loose by some thugs trying to fix the duel. When their plot is noticed, they unleash more monsters and flee. Therese is enraged by this insult to the sacred duel.

Lyria: You're amazing, Therese! You finished that fight as fast as I'd expect a duelist to!
Therese: Well, if I lost to monsters as weak as that, I'd have no chance in an actual duel.
Therese: I'm actually more worried about why the monsters were released... I have a bad feeling about this...
Vyrn: A bad feeling? Are you implying that this has something to do with the duel?
Rackam: Looks like our hunch was right. It seems like we don't have time to chit chat.
Katalina: Yeah, I guess you noticed too, (Captain). The guys hiding in the corner sent the monsters after us.
Rackam: All right! All that's left is to catch them and make them cough up the truth.
Thug 1: Damn it! All those monsters didn't stand a chance against them? This is starting to get out of hand...
Thug 2: This is terrible. If that duelist participates, our whole plot to fix the duel will all go to waste!
Rackam: So that's what you did... Hey, hooligans. That's some cheap plot you got there.
Thug 1: Whoa! When did you—Shoot! He heard everything! We got no choice! For now, we better...
Thug 2: Run for it!
Rackam: Hey! Wait! Wait, you thugs!
Katalina: I can't believe you let those low-level scumbags escape! Hmm? What's the matter, Therese?
Therese: They'll pay for this...
Therese: How dare they try to fix the duel! Those who defile the sacred duel must be crushed!
Lyria: Wow! Therese is burning up! Show them what duelists are made of!
Vyrn: All right! Let's bring those villains to justice, (Captain)!
Rackam: Oh, brother... What a bunch of trash! They sicced more monsters on us while running away!
Katalina: Yeah, for all the good it'll do them! (Captain)! Let's finish them off right away!
Lyria: (Captain)! Therese! Good luck!

Pride of a Duelist: Scene 3[edit]

After punishing the thugs, Therese, paralyzed with fear, is taken to the arena. Once there, she switches to her duelist mode and fights valiantly, captivating the audience.

Vyrn: Phew! You scared me there for a second, Therese! You went berserk, and I thought the thugs were goners.
Lyria: I agree. If (Captain) hadn't stopped you, those bad guys would have been toast!
Therese: Th-that's so embarrassing! When it comes to duels, I get tunnel vision...
Katalina: Ha ha. Based on the way those thugs panicked, they clearly thought you meant to put them down for good!
Katalina: Speaking of which, don't you need to get a move on? Isn't the duel about to start?
Rackam: Go on! The audience is chomping at the bit for you!
Therese: Ugh, of all the times for this to happen!
Therese: I... My legs are shaking...
Vyrn: Hey, are you okay? (Captain), let's take her to the arena!
Therese: W-wait! I'm not ready for this yet... How can I possibly duel in front of such a big audience?
Rackam: Wow, Therese! Listen to how the entire hall is cheering to see you! Remind them why they love you!
Katalina: Ha ha... I don't think you have to worry about that. Look at that smile! That's Therese's duelist mode if I've ever seen it!
Lyria: He he! Therese looks like she's enjoying this so much! She really must love dueling. Therese! You can do it!
Vyrn: Ha ha! You look pretty happy too, (Captain)! I'm betting you want to say that it's great seeing your friend shining so brightly!
After protecting the duel from a fixed game, the supremely confident Therese captivates the entire arena audience.
With one more victory under her belt, the beautiful duelist smiles proudly, satisfied with her accomplishment.
She then vows to her fans that she will one day return to the casino liner, and she heads off into the skies with her companions.

A Nostalgic Flavor[edit]

Therese tries to lead the crew to a favorite sweet shop of hers, but she gets them lost and they are attacked by monsters. Though Therese tends to dwell on her failures, with her friend De La Fille's support, she is gradually gaining confidence.

Therese: Oh! I know this town!
De La Fille: Is something wrong? You look like you saw a ghost!
The Grandcypher touches down on a certain island.
Seeing the town spread out before them, Therese's eyes are wide as dinner plates.
Therese: Er... W-would all of you happen to maybe be free today?
Therese: Ah, no, of course you aren't! I'm sure you have shopping and all sorts of other things to do. I'm so sorry!
Therese: Wait, wait. Um. What I mean to say is... Would... Would you all like to come eat dessert with me today?
Lyria: Dessert? Ooh, yes! Let's go, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Hang on a sec. What's goin' on here?
De La Fille: Hahaha... I'd forgotten what a formidable sweet tooth you've always had.
Therese: "For... Formidable" is going a little far, I think, but... Anyway, you like sweets too, Fille!
De La Fille: Well... yes! I do indeed! Would you expect anything less of royalty?
Lyria: It's all right—we all love sweets. Nothing wrong with that!
Vyrn: Does that have something to do with why you looked so surprised when we landed?
Therese: The thing is... I came here once before, aboard the casino liner...
Therese: And, um... There's a really good shop around here that I want to show you guys!
De La Fille: Ooh, then we should take her up on her offer, (Captain)! Therese has a very discerning palate.
Therese: Me? Do you really think so? I mean, I'm not...
Vyrn: Great! What are we waiting around for? Show us the way, Therese!
Therese: A-all right then! I'll do my best to get us there!
And so they all set out for the confectioner's shop of which Therese has spoken so highly. Alas, it doesn't prove so simple.
Therese: It's around here somewhere...
Vyrn: Er... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is a forest.
Lyria: Oh, I... I bet we're almost there! Let's just keep walking!
De La Fille: Sigh... I don't see a single soul besides ourselves.
Therese: I-I'm so sorry! I thought I remembered the way, but... I guess it was a little hazy...
Therese: Sigh... I really am sorry. I just got so excited...
De La Fille: That will be enough of that. There is absolutely nothing you need to apologize for.
De La Fille: Even if your internal compass is a little off, you have a host of other marvelous qualities to—
Monster: Gwooogh!
Lyria: Watch out! Behind you!
De La Fille: !
Therese: Haaah!
Monster: Grrooo...
Therese: Huff... Puff...
That was close. Is anybody hurt?
De La Fille: I'm perfectly fine. Thank you, Therese.
Therese: Sniff... I'm so sorry! Not only did I get you lost, but I put you in danger!
Therese: I-I... I'm the worst. I don't know how you all can stand me...
Vyrn: Aw, c'mon... We're all safe, aren't we? No harm, no foul!
Lyria: Exactly, and we can still find the shop if we look!
Therese: But...
De La Fille: Oh, for heaven's sake! If you have time for that sort of talk, you have time to help me!
Therese: Eek!
Therese: Oh! This tastes exactly like what I remember...
De La Fille: What do you all think? Therese described that shop's sweets so vividly, I thought I'd try recreating them.
Lyria: Amazing! And they're absolutely delicious!
Vyrn: Munch, munch... You're pretty handy with a whisk, De La Fille!
De La Fille: But of course. The royalty of the Gem Domain pride themselves on their dedication to the domestic arts!
De La Fille: Hehe... Besides, there's a dear friend whose slack I have to pick up in that department.
Therese: Sniff... This is pure, sugary heaven... I could never make anything that comes close...
Vyrn: Heh heh... So feeding that "friend" is how you got to be such a great chef?
De La Fille: Indeed. This friend of mine had an appalling diet for one whose body was their entire livelihood.
Therese: Sigh... I can't cook, I can't find my way down a straight hallway. I can't do anything right...
Vyrn: Oh, for Pete's sake, Therese, get a grip!
Therese: W-what? Oh... S-sorry! I, uh... I'm afraid I wasn't listening...
De La Fille: Haha... Now, now, Therese. So there are a few areas of life you haven't mastered. That's no problem at all.
De La Fille: I know you better than anyone. Yes, you certainly have your flaws.
De La Fille: But who was that dashing woman who leapt in to save me from mortal peril in the woods?
Therese: ...!
Fille...
Vyrn: You've got a few flaws yourself, y'know, for all the lecturin' you're doin'.
De La Fille: Yeek! Wh-what do you want! Y-you stay back, you!
Therese: Hehe... Um, don't bully her too much, okay? Fille's pretty scared of reptiles...
Despite the day's mishaps, De La Fille's compliment has given Therese a much-needed shot in the arm.
With her friend's help, the shy duelist is always improving.
