Sarunan=Granblue Fantasy Theater An eccentric mage who works alongside his beloved spirit helper Honey, Sarunan speaks with a calm and collected demeanor. That is, unless, the topic of conversation concerns Honey. In an attempt to end the life of a spirit he fell in love with during his younger years, Sarunan ended up using a spell from his village to seal the spirit in his staff, forcibly tying it to this world. He now travels in search of Estalucia, home of the Astrals, in the hopes of finding a way to return Honey to her original body. Other than Sarunan, only Lyria can converse with Honey. To everyone else, the spirit is invisible and unresponsive. Forbidden Lovers[edit]
The crew visits a small island on a request to hunt monsters, but they've already been beaten there by a man said to possess strange powers. When the crew finds him, he seems to be arguing with someone, but there's no one in sight. Suddenly monsters appear.
(Captain) and company visit a small Erune town on a request to hunt monsters.
But there are no signs of monsters in the town. According to the residents, a single man defeated them all in the blink of an eye.
Vyrn: We come all this way, and now you're telling me the monsters have all been defeated already?
Vyrn: And all it took was one man to do it? You can't be serious!
Townsperson: But I am. In fact, he was so strong with that strange power of his that I assumed he was a member of your crew.
Vyrn: But we just got here. Whoever he is, he isn't with us!
Lyria: Well, I'm sure relieved all the townspeople are safe at least! Right, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Still, he must be one heck of a fighter!
Vyrn: Hey, (Captain). Aren't you a little curious about what kind of guy he is?
Townsperson: I didn't get much of a chance to talk to him, but—
Townsperson: Oh, speak of the devil! There he is. Right over there!
Sarunan: I hear you... But what about... No, that's not what I mean...
Vyrn: Huh... I was expecting more of a hulking bodybuilder type...
Lyria: Yeah, me too. But he looks like a nice guy!
Sarunan: Oh, just forget it! I refuse to put up with all your petty demands!
Lyria: Eek! Me? Petty?
Vyrn: Relax! I really don't think he was talking to you, Lyria.
Vyrn: But wait just a second... Don't tell me he's talking to himself!
Sarunan: Why won't you understand? I'm only thinking of you...
Sarunan: What? What do you mean you hate that about me? That's just cruel!
Lyria: Um... Sir?
Sarunan: I don't want to involve you in any more stupid skydweller conflicts! Haven't we talked about this?
Sarunan: Can't you just listen to me once in a while? And you know what else—
Vyrn: Um... Erune dude? Who are you talking to?
Sarunan: Where did you people come from all of a sudden? And what's with the lizard?
Vyrn: Well, I thought you were arguing with someone at first, but it turns out you were just talking to yourself, and quite dramatically at that!
Sarunan: What a rude little lizard you are! Please pay us no mind. Now, if you'll excuse us, we will bid you good day.
Vyrn: Hey! Hang on! And who's "us"?
Vyrn: Wait... I'm sensing something! Monsters!
Sarunan: And here I was thinking I'd taken care of them all. Oh well. Back to work!
Sarunan: Stand back, please. Honey and I will handle this.
Vyrn: I'll have you know that we've been asked to hunt down the monsters in this town! We'll handle the ones over here!
Vyrn: Let's go, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Whoa there! They weren't kidding when they said you were strong!
Vyrn: And what's with your weird techniques? That doesn't seem like ordinary magic.
Sarunan: Why should I tell a group of strangers all about my private affairs?
Vyrn: Huh? Private affairs?
Lyria: I see... So Sarunan's lack of people skills has got you worried... But he seems like a really kind person!
Lyria: Huh? Overly nice people are annoying, you say? I guess kindness can be pretty complicated...
Vyrn: Lyria? Who in the world are you talking to?
Vyrn: Don't tell me you've caught his Dramatic Monologue-itis!
Lyria: I think strawberry jam goes great with grilled fish, but everyone says I'm weird!
Lyria: What? Strawberry jam over rice? If you say so... I'll have to try that sometime!
Vyrn: Lyria! What's the matter with you? And grilled fish only needs salt by the way!
Sarunan: What the? I can't believe there's someone other than me who can converse with Honey...
Sarunan: You there, girl! Show some respect when you address my Honey!
Sarunan: And how is it that you even understand what Honey's saying? Who exactly are you?
Spirit: ...?
Lyria: What's that, Honey? You want to know more about us?
Lyria: We're skyfarers! Me and (Captain) are on a long journey to the end of the sky!
Vyrn: We're trying to get to Estalucia!
Vyrn: Wait, hold up. You were talking to a spirit this whole time, Lyria? Not yourself?
Lyria: Exactly! Talking to Honey is so much fun that I got kind of carried away!
Spirit: ...!
Lyria: What's that? You and Sarunan are trying to get to Estalucia too?
Vyrn: I guess we're not the only ones, huh?
Sarunan: The home of the Astrals, who left legends and stories all over the world. The island of mystery, Estalucia...
Sarunan: Yes, we're trying to get there as well. I doubt it's that uncommon of a goal.
Spirit: ...
Lyria: What's that? Sarunan wants to use a secret Astral technique to give you a new body?
Vyrn: Come again? Is that even possible?
One fateful day, Sarunan met a beautiful spirit who would change his life.
But the spirit had lost its corporeal vessel and was doomed to disappear before long.
Having fallen in love with the spirit, Sarunan sealed her into his staff and tethered her to the world to try to save her, if only for a while.
Sarunan: Now then, I'm all out of time for chitchat with you people.
Sarunan: I must seek out clues to Estalucia's location as soon as possible!
Sarunan: And one day I'll be able to walk hand in hand with my beloved Honey! I will make it so!
Spirit: ...!
Sarunan: What? You want to travel with these people? Don't be absurd!
Lyria: That's a great idea! We're heading to the same place anyway, right? What do you say, Sarunan?
Sarunan: What? Um... I'll pass, but thanks anyway.
Sarunan: I'd prefer to travel alone with Honey. Spending long hours together, through the good times and the bad, and deepening our mutual understanding...
Sarunan: Then at last our carefully-tended love will bear fruit! Honey will finally obtain a physical form!
Sarunan: When our dreams finally come true, we'll weep with joy as we hold each other! Oh!
Vyrn: What's with this guy? I think he's missing a few marbles...
Spirit: ...!
Lyria: Honey says she knows he's strong, but she's still worried that the slightest accident could crush their dream.
Lyria: She's right! Anything can happen on a journey through the sky. That's why we have to help each other!
Vyrn: Maybe fate brought us together. You seem like a competent guy, so I say welcome aboard!
Sarunan: Honey... If protecting our future together means that much to you... then I...
Choose: Welcome aboard, lovebirds!
Sarunan: Don't embarrass us, please!
Choose: Let's just take Honey.
Sarunan: Hey! I won't let you tear me and Honey apart!
Continue 1Sarunan: Very well. Then if you insist, let us make our way through the skies together.
Vyrn: Now you're talking!
Sarunan: However... If I decide you people are slowing us down, we'll leave your airship in a heartbeat.
Vyrn: You've got nothing to worry about! Right, (Captain)? You're in for a wild ride, friend!
Lyria: Exactly! I'm sure there are many chance encounters and fateful events just waiting for us out there in the big, blue sky!
Lyria: Let's find Estalucia together!
Welcoming their two new friends, the crew sets off once more into the skies.
Off in their own little world, Sarunan and Honey begin a new chapter of their story.
Enshrined[edit]
Guided by the spirit Honey, the crew visits the small island where she and Sarunan's relationship started. In a nearby forest, Sarunan's reminiscences are interrupted by monsters. The crew takes them on to save the local villagers.
Led by the uncharacteristically frantic Honey, the crew lands on a small island populated by Erunes.
Sarunan: This brings back memories... The distinctive smell of the woods and grass... It hasn't changed one bit.
Vyrn: What? You've been here before, Sarunan?
Sarunan: I have. This is actually where Honey and I first met. I could never forget this place.
Honey: ...
Sarunan: What? Wait, Honey! Is that how it was? Really?
Sarunan: Are you serious? You must be teasing me! Please say you're just teasing!
Honey: ...
Sarunan: Never mind then! Your jokes can be in extremely poor taste sometimes, Honey.
Sarunan: I hope you realize it's my easygoing personality that enables us to stay together. You can't treat others like this, you know?
Honey: ...
Lyria: Honey says we should go towards the center of this island.
Sarunan: I didn't hear anything about this...
Vyrn: Hey, why'd Honey bring us here, anyway?
Sarunan: What! What am I sensing?
Sarunan: There are far more monsters here than there should be.
Sarunan: This could be bad... There's a small Erune village up ahead.
Vyrn: What? Then we have to move! We need to go check on that village now!
Sarunan: Indeed. This place has sentimental value for me. I won't allow monsters to run roughshod over it.
Vyrn: All right! Let's head through the forest and go to that village!
Enshrined: Scene 2[edit]
In the village, an Erune man tells the crew that his brother went to a nearby monster-infested temple to protect a spirit. (Captain) and the others offer to rescue him.
Sarunan: How terrible... This forest used to be beautiful, but just look at it now.
Vyrn: Let's hurry to the village! I hope it's not too late...
Erune Man: Excuse me! Have you seen a young boy around here?
Lyria: A young boy?
Erune Man: My little brother ran out saying that he had to protect the spirit, and he hasn't returned!
Erune Man: There have been violent monsters wandering around the forest recently... I'm so worried...
Sarunan: Calm down. What's this about protecting a spirit?
Erune Man: We have a temple dedicated to the spirit Kazann, who has protected us since time immemorial.
Erune Man: Because of the recent dramatic increase in monsters, villagers keep leaving the island.
Erune Man: And my brother thinks it's because Kazann's power has weakened, so he headed for the temple in the forest alone...
Honey: ...
Sarunan: I see.
Vyrn: How can you be so calm? We need to hurry to that temple!
Lyria: We have to save this guy's brother and the spirit! Let's go, (Captain)!
Erune Man: Really? Thank you!
Vyrn: We're on it! We'll help both of them!
Honey: ...
Sarunan: This certainly brings back memories. Honey and I met here.
Sarunan: Unlike the forest, this place is still beautiful. Did that man's brother really come here?
Honey: ...!
Lyria: You feel the presence of someone deep in the temple? That must be him! Let's hurry.
Vyrn: All right! We're coming for ya, kid! Let's go, (Captain)!
Enshrined: Scene 3[edit]
The crew rescues the trembling boy deep in the temple. He insists that he must protect the spirit Kazann even at the cost of his life, but Sarunan tells him that there's nothing the boy can do.
The crew reaches the temple's inner sanctum and finds a boy at the altar of the spirit Kazann.
Erune Boy: I'm not scared... I'm not scared... I'll protect the spirit.
Lyria: There's the boy! What a relief... It looks like he's safe.
Erune Boy: Eek! W-Who are you people?
Vyrn: Calm down, little guy. We're here to help you. Are you hurt?
Erune Boy: No... I'm fine, but...
Erune Boy: I came here to protect the spirit... But after seeing the monsters in the temple, I got scared, and...
Erune Boy: What's wrong with me? My legs keep shaking, and they won't do what I tell them to...
Sarunan: Hey, boy. Is the spirit still here?
Erune Boy: Yeah! Grandpa said that the spirit of the temple is always watching over everyone in the village!
Erune Boy: But even though there are monsters attacking this temple, all anyone in the village has done is run away.
Erune Boy: And that means I'm the only one who can defeat the monsters and protect the spirit!
Honey: ...
Sarunan: I see... I commend your bravery. It's certainly something to be proud of. But there's nothing you can do here.
Vyrn: Hey! Did ya have to put it that way? He's just a kid.
Sarunan: Before you go off trying to protect the village, you need to learn to protect yourself.
Sarunan: If you can't even protect yourself, how can you protect the spirit, your village, or your family? You need to know your limitations.
Erune Boy: Shut up! As long as everyone else is okay, I don't care what happens to me.
Sarunan: Kids these days...
Sarunan: Do you think the spirit would be happy about you putting yourself in danger?
Erune Boy: Maybe not... But I—
Vyrn: Hey! This doesn't look good, guys. This monster is huge!
Vyrn: It must be mad because we beat up its friends!
Erune Boy: Aahh!
Sarunan: Protecting the spirit Kazann... If I'm the one who caused this mess, then I had better clean it up.
Vyrn: What do you mean by that? On second thought, it can wait!
Vyrn: Hey, kiddo! That monster's more than you can handle! So just stay hidden where you are!
Vyrn: Move it, (Captain)!
Enshrined: Scene 4[edit]
Sarunan had a reason for using magic to take Kazann away from this land, but it's not something the young boy can understand. The boy vows to protect the village so that Kazann can return to the island one day.
Sarunan: How dare these monsters defile this special place? I'll show them the power of the love between me and Honey!

Erune Boy: Hey, what was that? Was that the spirit fighting at your side?
Sarunan: That's right. Honey—or rather the spirit Kazann—is with me.
Sarunan: I was the one who took Kazann from this island.
Sarunan tells the boy how he met his destiny in this beautiful land blessed with natural abundance and happy residents.
But the beautiful spirit's life was coming to an end, and she was about to fade away from this world.
Sarunan: I came to this temple every day to see Honey. Perhaps it goes without saying, but I was in love with her.
Sarunan: I only had a little time with her each day, but I enjoyed every moment. I wanted it to last forever.
Sarunan: And then I learned that Honey's long life as a spirit was coming to an end.
Sarunan: I couldn't let that happen. Luckily, I was good with magic, so I used a certain spell and prepared to leave the island.
Erune Boy: I heard about that... A man was cursed after using a forbidden spell and got exiled from this island...
Sarunan: The spell was a success. To put it in simple terms, I sealed Honey into this staff to bind her to this world.
Vyrn: A-are you holding Honey in there against her will?
Honey: ...
Lyria: She's not saying anything!
Sarunan: She must be so overcome with emotion that she's at a loss for words.
Sarunan: I still remember it clearly. She played hard to get at first and tried to resist the spell...
Sarunan: But I wasn't about to give up. I kept trying until I managed to seal her into this staff... The joy I felt then... Oh!
Honey: ...
Vyrn: Yeah... I'm pretty sure this guy's a creep.
Erune Boy: So you're the guy who took away the spirit of the temple!
Erune Boy: Give her back! Give us back the spirit!
Sarunan: You're clearly not hearing me... If I had not sealed her in the staff, the spirit Kazann would no longer exist in this world.
Erune Boy: Ugh... But...
Sarunan: But I suppose there's one way for you to get her back. Just become strong enough to take her from me.
Erune Boy: Really? Then that's exactly what I'll do!
Sarunan: Very well then. Give it your best shot.
Sarunan: I can't save her on my own...
Honey: ...
Erune Boy: I'll protect this island so the spirit can come back at any time!
Sarunan: I'm sure Honey will be watching over you as well. Even though I don't like it one bit.
Erune Boy: Do you mean what I think you do?
Vyrn: That's right! Honey is the one who told us the island was in danger.
Honey: ...
Lyria: What's that? You look forward to meeting this boy again? I'm sure you do!
Thus (Captain) and company take flight in search of Estalucia once more.
Though Sarunan is agitated at the thought of Honey watching over this land from afar.
Sarunan: It's my job to protect you, Honey! I can't just give up on that!
Honey: ...
Sarunan: The forbidden spell to share a person's life span... If we are to reincarnate you, it would seem we have no choice but to get to Estalucia.
Where to Next, Honey?[edit]
After leaving behind a record on how to extend Honey's life span, Sarunan stops by a local shop to look for clues concerning the Island of the Astrals. Learning from the shopkeep that someone outside of town is looking for him, the mage pursues the lead, encountering monsters on the way.
Sarunan: ...
Aboard the Grandcypher, Sarunan writes intently in his notebook.
Sarunan: "I will record here the spell for sharing a person's life force with the spirit Kazann, who resides in my staff."
Sarunan: "First, drip some of the spellcaster's blood onto the staff in order to forge a connection between Kazann and the caster."
Sarunan: "Next, recite the incantation noted below. The incantation is written in an ancient Erune language, but it isn't necessary to understand the meaning."
Honey: ...
Sarunan: What am I doing? I'm writing down the method for extending your life span.
Honey: ...
Sarunan: It's just a bit of insurance. I simply want to make sure you'll be all right if something happens to me.
Honey: ...
Honey casts her eyes downward. As she does so, a strong gust of wind blows in from the window.
Sarunan: Ah...
The wind—summoned by Honey herself—causes the pages of the notebook to flip backward.
The notebook opens to a page where a short poem has been scribbled down.
Sarunan: "My eyes were clouded until that moment when I first beheld your radiance."
Sarunan: "Everything around me had become dull and lifeless, but suddenly my world was full of color. That which brought light to my life I shall call: love."
Sarunan: "Sarunan's Ode to Love, Part I..." That brings back memories.
Honey: ...
Sarunan: Now this is a surprise. Were you trying to cheer me up?
Honey: ...
Sarunan: Well then. Thanks to you, I think I have the energy to head back into town and gather information.
Closing the notebook and putting it into his pocket, Sarunan leaves the Grandcypher.
Sarunan: Did you happen to find any information about the Island of the Astrals?
Man: A bit... But I guess it's more rumors than info. Still interested?
Sarunan: Yes. At this point I'm grateful to find even a single clue. You have my thanks.
Sarunan takes the document from the man and hands over his payment before heading out of the general store.
Sarunan: (There are rumors about the island floating around everywhere, and it was mentioned in that letter (Captain) showed me as well...)
Sarunan: (The information I've collected about the Island of the Astrals while traveling with (Captain)'s crew has made me all the more certain it really exists.)
Sarunan: (However...)
Sarunan: ...
Sarunan: (However, we have yet to discover the way to the Island of the Astrals. I may not be able to hold on long enough to make it there...)
Man: Excuse me, sir! I have one more piece of info for you!
Sarunan: Hm... That would be helpful. What is it?
Man: A person showed up saying they wanted to help you or something. They're waiting for you outside of town.
Sarunan: Hm...
Sarunan and Honey make their way toward the meadow outside of town.
Sarunan: Whew... That breeze feels nice, but the sunlight certainly is strong.
Honey: ...
Sarunan: Don't worry about me. I feel fine thanks to you.
Sarunan: There's just one thing that concerns me...
Golem: ...!
Sarunan: What nerve, setting up a trap like this at our meeting place.
Sarunan: Honestly... Just what is this so-called helper of mine thinking?
Where to Next, Honey?: Scene 2[edit]
The monsters were sent by a boy from Sarunan's hometown who underwent rigorous training to recover the guardian spirit Kazann—also known as Honey. Sarunan is ready to give up without a fight but asks the boy whether he is prepared to give up the greater portion of his life for the spirit.
Golem: ...!
Sarunan: Well then. Now that you've had the chance to gauge my true strength, I implore you to show yourself.
???: ...!
Sarunan: So it was you.
He could never forget that face—the face of the boy he met while visiting his home island.
The boy had learned of Sarunan's deeds while searching for the missing guardian spirit of the island, Kazann—also known as Honey.
Erune Boy: I've been looking for you forever! I came to take back the spirit!
Sarunan: Hmm... Is that so? I gather that means you've become strong enough to defeat me?
Sarunan surrounds his body with an enormous amount of magic power in an attempt to intimidate the boy.
Erune Boy: Urgh!
Sarunan: Why, you're frozen stiff. Weren't you going to take Honey from me?
Erune Boy: Y-yeah! That's right! I'll show you just how strong I've become!
Refusing to be outdone, the boy releases his own magic power and assumes a fighting stance before Sarunan.
Sarunan: You must have trained hard to be able to use such strong magic.
Erune Boy: Yeah! I've been protecting the island ever since you left!
Sarunan: I see. Well, I suppose you win.
Erune Boy: Huh?
Sarunan: Do you know why the spirit drove away monsters and protected the townspeople?
Sarunan: Because that's just who she is.
Sarunan: Just as she was born to make water flow and make the wind blow, she was born to love and protect the people of the island.
Sarunan: Being the way she is, I'm certain she doesn't wish to see us fight. In that case, I lost the moment you challenged me to battle.
Erune Boy: D-does that mean I can take the spirit back to the island?
Sarunan: As long as you're prepared to sacrifice the greater portion of your life for her sake.
Erune Boy: ...!
Where to Next, Honey?: Scene 3[edit]
Honey prevents Sarunan from giving the boy the notebook with instructions on how to extend her lifespan. In lieu of returning, she transfers some of her power to the boy so that he can protect the island, who in turn thanks Honey and leaves without looking back.
Sarunan: As you know, the spirit is reaching the end of her life span.
Sarunan: Someone needs to continue sharing their life force with her, or she'll disappear. Are you prepared to shoulder that responsibility?
Erune Boy: W-well, I—
Sarunan: You don't have to answer right away. But I'd like to at least give you this.
Sarunan pulls the notebook out of his pocket.
Sarunan: I have written the method for becoming Honey's vessel in this notebook. So if you're ready—
A strong gust of wind suddenly blows.
Sarunan: Hey! My notebook!
Sarunan's notebook is blown from his hands and tumbles across the grass.
Honey: ...!
Sarunan: Was that wind your doing, Honey?
Honey: ...
Sarunan: I shouldn't be putting strange ideas into a child's head? Don't say it like that! Someone's going to get the wrong idea!
Honey: ...

Kazann: I've asked the water and wind across all the skies we've traveled through, but the answer has always been the same.
Kazann: Everything that lives must one day die. I have a feeling that not even the Astrals or the Creator could overturn that simple truth.
Kazann: Even if there is a spell to give me a physical form, if it means you have to keep having your life force sucked out, then there's no point.
Sarunan: So you're saying I'm doomed, regardless of whether you're a spirit or a person? What are you planning to do then?
Kazann: I'm going to break your spell. If I'm not around, you'll be able to live a bit longer.
