Eugen=Granblue Fantasy Theater A veteran soldier wracked with remorse, Eugen once traveled the skies alongside Rackam as a skyfarer, but has since returned to his home on the Auguste Isles. Working as a mercenary fighting against the empire, he shares some kind of deep connection with the Black Knight, but chooses to run from it, saying he's too old to deal with it. It's during his attempts to flee from responsibility that he encounters you and decides to travel alongside you to stand up to his past. A crafty fellow, Eugen often mystifies others with sayings accumulated from his years of experience. |

The Old Soldier's Meddling[edit]
(Captain) and the crew make a stop in order to repair the Grandcypher. Everyone is enjoying a short break, but Eugen suddenly forces them to venture into the forest.
(Captain) and company are forced to stop to fix the malfunctioning Grandcypher.
While they wait, they enjoy their break from the usual fighting.
Lyria: The weather is so nice today!
Katalina: It sure is. Perhaps we should go for a walk.
Rackam: Yeah. Besides, I can't even fix the ship without the parts.
Rackam: Siero said they'll take two or three days to arrive. I think I'll go take a nap...
Vyrn: That sounds like a great idea. All this sunshine is making me sleepy too.
Io: What's with everyone? Hey, lizard. I want to sleep too, so be my pillow.
Vyrn: Hm? Oh, it's fine! (Captain), you should take it easy too.
Io: And if you were to say that you can't sleep alone, I suppose I could be persuaded to sleep next to you, (Captain)...
Eugen: ...
Eugen: Hey, you guys... You got a minute?
Katalina: What's the matter, Eugen? Are you planning on going somewhere too?
Eugen: Yeah. I'm heading into the forest. And you guys are coming with me.
Vyrn: What? B-but my nap...
Eugen: No buts, Vyrn. Or are you planning to let a feeble old man like me teeter around in the monster-infested woods?
Eugen: Of course you're not! Now hurry up and get ready!
The Old Soldier's Meddling: Scene 2[edit]
Eugen is after the wine made by Erunes who live in the forest. As the crew heads to the Erune village, monsters appear before them.
Vyrn: Erune wine? You seriously dragged us out here just for that?
Eugen: Don't be silly! The wine made by the Erunes in this forest is said to be super rare!
Eugen: Since we're here, it'd be daft not to take a few more steps and give it a try.
Katalina: Erune wine is indeed said to be the best in Phantagrande.
Rackam: And we came this far into the woods already. We might as well get a bottle before going back to the ship.
Vyrn: I think I'll take my nap anyway, so can you carry me there, (Captain)? Night night...
Lyria: No sleeping, Vyrn! Monsters are coming!
The Old Soldier's Meddling: Scene 3[edit]
Eugen and the others grow ever more excited about the wine. As they get close to the Erune village, monsters attack.
Vyrn: Hah! H-huh?
Where's my mountain of apples?
Where's my mountain of apples?
Eugen: Wake up already, unless you want one of the monsters in this forest to make an apple out of you.
Katalina: So the wine isn't available unless we go this deep into the forest? It must be something else.
Eugen: Yeah. I bet it's definitely worth going for a little stroll in the woods.
Lyria: I wonder what it tastes like. Even I'm starting to look forward to it!
Eugen: Oh no you don't, little lady. Wine's no drink for kids.
Eugen: But don't worry about it. I'm sure the trip will be worth your while.
Eugen: Look! The Erune village is right up ahead!
The Old Soldier's Meddling: Scene 4[edit]
Eugen ends up not getting the wine he wanted, but he seems satisfied. He cheerfully reveals that he actually dragged everyone to the Erune village because he thought they were getting lazy and could use the exercise.
Vyrn: What? You don't have any? But we came all the way here...
Erune Man: I'm sorry... We're still making the preparations, so there's nothing to drink.
Lyria: I see... What are we supposed to do now?
Eugen: There's nothing we can do. C'mon, (Captain)! Let's go back!
Vyrn: I don't get it... Why's Eugen so cheerful?
Lyria: I'm not sure... but we should keep up!
Eugen: Wow! Now this is what I call wine!
Vyrn: Hey, Eugen! What's the meaning of this?
Eugen: What? Didn't I tell you? Wine's not for kids.
Eugen: Milk's more your speed, baby lizard.
Vyrn: Don't play dumb! And how many times do I have to tell you I'm not a lizard, old man!
Vyrn: If the Erune wine's available at the Knickknack Shack, why'd we have to go all the way into the woods?
Vyrn: You knew about this all along, didn't you?
Eugen: Of course! The Erune make the wine, but they leave the distribution and sales completely to others.
Vyrn: So why bother with the nature hike?
Eugen: Because you all have been getting lazy recently.
Eugen: So I thought it'd be nice to get you to train by fighting some monsters. First decent exercise you've had in a while, right?
Vyrn: Exercise? Why didn't you just tell us?
Eugen: Ha-ha! If I spoiled the surprise, it wouldn't be any fun!
Eugen: Listen up. Battles can happen at any time.
Eugen: And that makes ambushes ideal for training.
Katalina: Eugen does have a point.
Eugen: Yep. And I'd be more than happy to put you through more training if you ever get lazy again, so you better stay sharp!
After laughing it off, the old soldier gulps down his drink.
As the crew's journey continues, the old soldier always makes sure to provide just the right amount of training.
Family Matters[edit]
Eugen and Carren talk about their respective pasts. Not wanting to go into detail about herIn-game typo; should be "his." daughter, Apollonia, Eugen shifts the conversation to Carren's relationship with her parents.
It had been some time since Carren had taken advantage of her uncle Eugen's kindness to barge her way onto the Grandcypher.
Eugen was almost certain Carren would give up the skyfaring life sooner or later.
However, her bubbling enthusiasm as of late indicates otherwise. Eugen feels conflicted over the matter.
Eugen: Well, color me impressed... I sure wasn't expecting you to pick up cargo transport jobs while we were on the move.
Carren: Hehe! Why didn't you tell me where we're going? I would've picked up a little more work!
Carren: I mean... There's just not much to do, you know? C'mon. Not a cloud in the sky? No monsters? Boring.
Eugen: Hey, now... Don't go getting too relaxed. You don't always get a warning...
Carren: Yeesh, I got it. Nothing's gonna catch me off guard!
The Grandcypher sails peacefully, still a ways from its destination.
The two stand on the deck, sharing the silence and the view of an endless blue sky.
Carren remembers something that she just has to share.
Carren: Actually... How's Polly doing?
Eugen: Hm? Polly?
Carren: Yeah, Polly. You know? Your kid? Not that I know much about her.
Eugen: Wait... How d'you even know about Apollonia? You sure as heck didn't hear of her from me...
Carren: I dunno... Something about your face reminded me...
Carren: We met once when I was a kid, right?
Carren: And I'm pretty sure I saw a Polly... Can't remember if it was a person or a picture though.
Eugen: Oh? I met you, eh? That had to be ten, maybe fifteen years ago. Went back to see the family and all...
Eugen: Wait a sec! You weren't more than a toddler back then! What were you? One? Two? That's some memory you got there!
Carren: Hah! I knew it! So how's she doing? Good?
Eugen: Er... Well... Probably, I guess...
Eugen: Hmm... what about you? Are you keeping in touch with your folks? You must've written 'em a few times by now?
Carren: Nah, not really. Why would I? They're just gonna tell me to bring my butt back home.
Eugen: Yeah... they were always pretty worried about you. And if they hear you're here with me...
Carren: Hmph! They worry way too much! They nag and nag and nag! It really ticks me off!
Carren: Hehe! Things are so much easier as a skyfarer! Not to mention you wouldn't chew me out unless it's something really big.
Carren: So, uh... is Polly a skyfarer too? Or does she spend her days doing something else?
Eugen: Er... Well, hm... I wonder...
Carren: She's probably out there living free and easy. Must be nice to have cool parents.
Eugen: Hm... y-yeah...
Carren: What? What's with the face?
Eugen: Nothing... I got something in my eye, is all...
Carren: Like, even if I told my parents I was the best skyfarer ever, they'd just be like, "Sure, wait 'til you get into some real trouble..."
Carren: So, Eugen... How do I get them to come around?
Eugen: Haha. Don't ask me. I ain't your dad, kid.
Carren: Hrm...
Eugen: To be honest, I kind of get how they feel.
Eugen: It's one of those things, eh? They live their whole lives on the ground, and their daughter's running off doing who knows what. They're worried, I bet.
Carren: I guess you could say that... But it's not like I'm completely clueless about this lifestyle. I mean, you're doing pretty good yourself.
Eugen: Haha! How about that. You wanna make it as a skyfarer so that your parents will finally accept it, huh?
Eugen: Well, how're they going to do that if you never actually reach out to them?
Carren: Hm... you have a point...
Eugen: Right? You keep that connection open, and you'll both reach some kind of understanding. One day, at least.
Eugen: (I'm one to talk...)
Carren: Hrm. Keep it open, huh...
Carren: I got it! I'll just go ahead and write 'em back!
Eugen: S-sure...
Carren: Wha? You're making that face. Something in your eye again?
Eugen: Nah. It's nothing. Just a little headache, is all...
Because Eugen avoids delving into his own past, Carren has no idea how much pain her uncle has been through.
The old soldier and the girl would continue to travel together, occasionally finding themselves at the mercy of the troubles they carry with them.
