Daetta (SR)/Lore

When an elderly woman accidentally criticizes Daetta's speech impediment, the girl suddenly runs off into the wild, wounded because her own grandmother always called her quirk special. When Daetta learns that the elderly woman is racked with guilt, however, she comes to her senses.

Daetta: Y'all really helped me out... and you even did it in two shakes...

Katalina: Then why the long face?

Daetta: So... I'm a stickler for uniqueness.

Daetta: I thought I finally got my mitts on a rarity, but y'all got a weapon from the same workshop too. So much for bein' special...

Lyria: But is that really such a bad thing? You and your friends now have matching morning stars! That's pretty snazzy!

Daetta: My friends?

Katalina: Aren't we? We overcame a difficulty together. I have no objection to calling you my friend.

Daetta: Know what? You're right! Having matching weapons with friends isn't so bad!

Daetta: Which means I'm comin' with you! We're gonna rule the battlefield with our identical gear!

Daetta: Rawr! Raaawr!

Vyrn: Whoa! Take it easy, Daetta!

Lyria: Um... Please try to calm down!

Daetta: Rawr!

Vyrn: Yikes! She's lost it!

Lyria: Oh... Why is she acting this way?

Daetta: Grrr!

Vyrn: Heh-heh. There it is! The old woman's shop!

Daetta: Hey! Can I go tell her?

Lyria: Of course. But how come?

Daetta: Eheheh. I'll meet y'all there!

Old Woman: Oh my, you need more herbs? Your boyfriend's a delicate thing, isn't he?

Village Girl: Hee-hee... You just don't understand, Granny. That's what's so cute about him, geddit?

Old Woman: Huh? "Geddit"? What's that supposed to mean? The other youngsters were saying the same thing.

Village Girl: You don't know? It's the latest slang. Everyone in the city says it!

Old Woman: Sigh. You should cut that out. It's unseemly. Besides, it's dangerous to butcher words given how powerful they are.

Village Girl: Ha-ha! You're such a fossil! You should pick some slang up too, Granny. And then you can pick up a boyfriend!

Old Woman: Look here! Don't make fun of your elders!

Village Girl: Aw, come on! No need to get mad. Sheesh.

Old Woman: Humph. There's nothing wrong with being single. Kids these days...

Daetta: Hiya, we're so back! And we gathered so much stuffs!

Old Woman: Come now! What did I just say about speaking properly?

Daetta: Wha?

Old Woman: Huh? Oh, are you a skyfarer? Dear me, I just assumed you were that village girl again.

Daetta: S-sorry... I-I jus'...

Old Woman: Erm, that wasn't directed at you, dear. I'm terribly sorry if I startled you.

Daetta: Ugh... Sniff... Sob.

Daetta: Waaah!

Vyrn: Yikes! Daetta?

Lyria: Wait! Oh no, she went into the forest...

Old Woman: I am so sorry. I must have really frightened her, or perhaps I said something hurtful in some way.

Vyrn: Well... Daetta's kinda self-conscious about her speech impediment.

Lyria: Hmm... But she's actually been laughing it off lately. I wonder what could have changed?

Old Woman: Goodness! Me and my trenchant mouth!

Daetta: Rawr!

Vyrn: Hmm... It's like she's gone feral...

Lyria: This is awful... and it took so long to find her out here.

Lyria: Oh, I know! Daetta, are you hungry?

Daetta: Rawr?

Lyria: I have some bread and fruit for you! I'll just leave them right here, okay?

Daetta: ...

Daetta: Yaaagh!

Daetta: Nom nom...

Vyrn: Sigh. Looks like you've been in the woods for a while. You calm down yet?

Daetta: Gulp.

Daetta: Back, sky people. This is a realm of beasts.

Lyria: Oh, she spoke! I'm not quite sure what she means though...

Vyrn: Sheesh. Come on, Daetta. Let's go back to the village before something terri—

Daetta: No! I'm done with the hairless herd!

Daetta: If talking's involved, I'd rather hang out with animals!

Lyria: Wait, you misunderstand! The old lady made a mistake!

Vyrn: Yeah, that's right! But you already knew that, right, Daetta?

Daetta: ...

Daetta: Yeah, but grannies are different...

Daetta: My granny always said my way of speaking makes me special.

Daetta: So gettin' yelled at by another granny... It really made me sad.

Lyria: Oh, so that's what it was.

Vyrn: Hmm... But if you don't go back, that old woman's gonna be in trouble.

Daetta: Huh? What do you mean?

Old Woman: Pant... Pant... I'm so sorry, Daetta!

Lyria: Huh? You shouldn't be here. You have to get your rest!

Daetta: Granny? You don't look so good... What's wrong?

Vyrn: So ever since you left, she's been in bad shape. She's barely eating at all out of guilt.

Daetta: Oh no! I did this?

Old Woman: No, dear. It's my fault. I said something awful to you.

Daetta: Granny! Time for a piggyback ride. Hop on!

Old Woman: Huh? B-but...

Daetta: It's fine! Hang on tight and don't let go!

Daetta: Rawr-rawr-raaawr!

Vyrn: What the? That's some crazy speed!

Lyria: Wow! She'll be at the village in no time!

Old Woman: Thank you. I'm so sorry for all this.

Daetta: I'm the sorry one! I know it's a bumpy ride, but jus' hang on!

Old Woman: Actually I'm quite comfortable. Did you make these clothes yourself?

Daetta: Yep. I thought I'd become more beasty...

Old Woman: They're wonderful. They suit you so perfectly. Cute!

Daetta: C-cute?

Daetta: Eheh... Hehehe! I'mma kick it up a gear!

The crew encounters an injured monster on a mountain path. When Daetta realizes some nearby monsters were picking on the injured one due to its unusual cry, she charges in to fight them.

Daetta: Y'all are so slow! The sun's gonna set!

Vyrn: Wheeze... Pant... Hold up. You're too fast, Daetta!

Lyria: Ahaha. You sure are full of energy!

Daetta: Huh? Okay, we'll take a break. I'll go get some water!

Vyrn: Whew! I can finally catch my breath. Come sit down, Lyria.

Lyria: Whoa! Vyrn, behind you!

Injured Monster: ...

Vyrn: Yikes! A monster!

Daetta: Get back, everyone! I'll put it down!

Daetta: Huh? It's hurt.

Injured Monster: Kwah...

Vyrn: What? Did it just yelp?

Injured Monster: Kwah...

Lyria: Um... It actually sounds kinda cute.

Daetta: ...

Monsters: Groar!

Vyrn: Huh? Uh-oh! There's a huge pack of monsters over there!

Injured Monster: ...

Lyria: Huh? It seems to be afraid of the other monsters. But why?

Daetta: It's just like me...

Vyrn: Huh? What's with the serious face?

Daetta: This is a bite wound. I'm thinkin' one of those other monsters bit it...

Daetta: Because its voice is different from theirs.

Lyria: Oh! Th-the monsters are coming this way!

Daetta: No mercy! I'mma teach 'em not to pick on the black sheep!

Daetta: Rawr-rawr-raaawr!

Vyrn: Huh? Hey! Don't just charge in by yourself!

Daetta names the monster Wulfy, and she can't bring herself to abandon him—Wulfy seems to suffer from similar bullying that Daetta once faced. Wulfy doesn't seem interested in being a pet, however, and a fight breaks out when random skyfarers pass by.

Wulfy: ...

Vyrn: Uh, he doesn't look too happy to be dragged along with us. Check out that glare.

Lyria: Hmm... I do think he's a little dangerous. The people in the village were kinda scared too...

Daetta: Nothin' to worry about! Watch. Wulfy, shake!

Wulfy: Kwaaah!

Daetta: Ouch!

Vyrn: Yikes! It bit you!

Daetta: D-don't be silly! That's his way of doin' the trick. Right, Wulfy?

Wulfy: Kwaaah!

Daetta: Owieee!

Lyria: Eek! It's biting her head!

Vyrn: Hmm... I really can't see this ending well...

Daetta: Wulfy! I brought you a li'l somethin' from the inn to chow on!

Wulfy: ...

Daetta: What's wrong? You gotta eat up to heal!

Daetta: Now open that chomper of yours!

Wulfy: Kwah!

Daetta: Yipes! Oh, I get it. No strength for eating, huh?

Daetta: Then I'll take care of your injuries first. I brought bandages, okay?

Wulfy: Kwah!

Daetta: Stop bein' fussy, Wulfy. You wanna survive, right?

Wulfy: ...

Daetta: Okay, good boy.

Daetta: We're the same, you know. I was bullied by the neighborhood kids, and I used to hate speaking.

Daetta: But I've found friends who get me, and talkin's super fun again.

Daetta: I hope it'll be the same for you, Wulfy!

Wulfy: ...

Skyfarer 1: Phew... We finally made it to the village.

Skyfarer 2: Yeah, let's find a place to settle in. Worked up a huge appetite.

Skyfarer 1: Excuse me, young lady. Do you know where the nearest—

Skyfarer 1: Ack! What's a monster doing here!

Daetta: Huh? He's no monster! This little one only—

Skyfarer 2: Filthy creature! You circle around it, and we'll finish it off from either side!

Wulfy: Kwaaah!

Skyfarer 2: Ugh! Cursed brute! I thought its injury would slow it down, but you know what they say about a wounded animal!

Daetta: Aahh! Stop, Wulfy!

Vyrn: What in the sky's goin' on here?
Wait, wha? Wulfy and skyfarers are—

Lyria: Th-this is awful! Both sides are going to get hurt at this rate...

Daetta: Ngh...

Daetta: This is my fault! So I'mma be the one to stop 'em!

The crew manages to stop the fight, but Daetta decides to part with Wulfy in the mountains. In the end, Wulfy opens up to her just a bit before departing into the forest.

Wulfy: ...?

Daetta: Listen, that cry of yours is special. So don't you mind the teasin', okay?

Daetta: You'll find good friends one day. If I can do it, anyone can!

Lyria: Oh... Daetta...

Daetta: Here's some lunch. We'll say goodbye once you finish.

Wulfy: ...

Vyrn: Oh... He won't eat as long as we're here staring at him. We better leave the food and go.

Daetta: Wulfy...

Daetta: Oh!

Wulfy: Kwah.

Daetta: Rawr?

Wulfy: Kwah.

Daetta: Rawr! Raaawr!

Vyrn: Um... Do those two actually understand each other?

Lyria: Hmm... Well, I do get the feeling that they're communicating something at least.
