Records come in many forms. As such, there are a multitude of concerns and methods for preventing decay. The stability of a record may refer to the medium that the information is carried in; photographs, digital files, audio tape recordings, film, textural documents, artifacts (such as tombstones, hair clippings, engraved jewellery), et al. can store genealogical information. Each medium has its own particular dangers and risks for deterioration.

This tag should be used for questions about preventing deterioration of genealogical records and preserving contextual data. It also currently encompasses questions about conservation (assessment, repair, treatment & documentation).
