The doctrine of regeneration varies widely among Christian denominations, but generally includes the idea of God working on a person to bring him out of a state of death and into a state of life. In Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism, this is seen to occur during baptism, while other Protestants tend to see it as an early step in conversion.
