Jocul cuprinde în primul rând o serie de puzzle-uri care trebuiesc rezolvate prin teleportarea personajului jucătorului și a obiectelor simple folosind "Portalul, un dispozitiv portabil" care poate crea portaluri interspațiale între două planuri plate, cu ajutorul unui pistol special.
