Why do monerod and monero-wallet-cli have mine commands?
Looking at --help, they each have a start_mining and stop_mining command. monerod includes an argument for an address. How are these different from cpuminer-multi?

Why is monerod so slow to sync the blockchain?
Only a few days can take more than an hour to sync. It couldn't simply be a matter of downloading x MBs as I download much larger files much faster. Is there that much processing going on, or have I made a mistake somewhere?

How long is a 'typical' transaction time, and what factors influence this?
I am wondering how long it takes on average for XMR to be sent from one address to another (in particular, because right now BTC takes ages).
Also, what factors influence the time? e.g. Mixin level, amount of XMR?
