Is there a testing environment for dev purposes

I'm hacking around with the js lib but everything happens very slowly - sending transactions, promoting, etc... I'm also connected to a personal fully synched node, which doesn't add any speed to my tests. Is there a way to speed dev tests on an…

Is it correct that a wallet which does PoW never needs to call attachToTangle?

This is more or less to confirm my deeper understanding of IRI and how it all works. From the docs and the code what I see is, that attachToTangle outsources the PoW to a node. It is broadcastTransactions what sends a "complete" transaction…

What does it mean, if the LSM and LM are equal, but do not change for hours?

My Latest Milestone and Latest Solid Subtangle Milestone are the same, but they do never change and they are behind the numbers in #botbox. What does that mean? My node is not fully synced, right? What can I do against it, if my assumption is right?

Why do transactions in a bundle need to be chained via trunkTransaction?

I'm trying to understand the inner workings of a bundle and its consequences. From what I’ve read so far, transactions of a bundle are chained by the trunkTransaction of each transaction in the bundle pointing to the next transaction in the bundle.…

Address re-use and snapshot

If an address was used more than once to spend, as was the case in the September claim, are addresses that were weakened for violating the Winternitz, One Time Signiture architecture of the tangle, still vulnerable to cracking after the snapshot.…

Why exactly is it so important that IP addresses are kept secret?

I mean, there's not really a way to keep them secret, as soon as you use DNS. Also, it would be beneficial for network analysis to know the IPs of the nodes.

IRI: Find neighbor which uses the testnet

I see really often the following message in the logs: Transaction resolves to incorrect ledger balance: -8727317092450 I checked my version. It is the main net. But I guess I got a neighbor who is not on the main net. I also had trouble with other…

How can there be consensus once the tangle is too large for a single iri node to track?

At one point, the tangle might grow so large or fast that a single iri node can't be aware of all transactions happening. How to have consensus about address balances without iri nodes trusting each other? How to create snapshots if there's no…

High spike in incoming data, high CPU usage

My incoming data to the node suddenly spiked from the usual 200 kbit/s to 11 Mbit/s. It has already tapered off, but I wonder what could have caused this. It is IOTA traffic. It is one node which pushed that data to me. I think I was told that it is…

Why does the tip-selection prefer new tips?

Most of the issues regarding slow or never confirmed transactions seem to arise from time-intensive POW and a badly connected full-node, which both lead to an attach-position not at the tangles "front". So why does the tip selection algorithm favor…
