| Formerly a civil servant of Feendrache, he disliked Siegfried the moment he first laid eyes on him. His dislike eventually grew to hatred, and he performed various heinous deeds because of it. When Siegfried and Gunther led a suppression force against the True Dragon Fafnir, Hagen attempted to sabotage the operation and fatally entrap them, but his plot was discovered and thwarted. |

- According to Hagen's concept notes in Graphic Archive III, he is in his late 30s.
Etymology
- Like Siegfried, Hagen's name derives from the Middle High German epic Nibelungenlied. In it, the warrior Hagen slew Siegfried by attacking the latter in the only part where he was vulnerable.
